What freqs are you trying to cut?
Tbh, I hardly do any EQing apart from cutting away low end stuff to give my bass some room.

Normally frequency splitters use linear phase filters to retain the clearest sound possible. There are loads out there, although they usually cost a few squid.
Waves do one, as do Meldaproduction and Blue Cat Audio.

Or use a freeware multiband compressor like
ReaXcomp.
Simply adjust the bands, save as a preset and copy onto each channel containg the same audio. Finally, mute the bands you don't want on each channel.

The best way to do is in reason is not by using the EQ, but the stereo imager. You can use them in series and each time solo another bit.
