minidisk was a great format
i think it was down to the fact that people were fine with cds and noone want to spend more cash when thecd format was still going well
i had a net md mindisk player, it was great was like a cross between an mp3 player and a minidisk player, ran off 1AA battery and lasted forever
i want a "punch rusko, win an iphone" tshirt.

I think it was another classic case of Sony making it difficult for other brands to make their own versions. I've still got one around somewhere and it was great. Used to record stuff off dubplate.net and then rock it in the car! There were huge in Japan though.

definitely, I had an Aiwa with a little jog wheel for volume/ text input, the most fun music player I had. With tapes and Minidisks (and cdrs) you really thought about what you were putting on them just cos it took so long and you could label them. I had some great little compilations.
Everythings a lot more instant now, less consideration, just drag n drop.
Can't believe the iTunes hate, it is so simple and makes everything so easy, specially if you got an ipod and a macbook
EDIT: found my old MD player:

what a beaut!

I still buy tapes.
Weird synth shit that's only available in runs of 60 cassettes or so.
Fits the type of music.
Also having old school hip hop on cassettes is just somehow fucking awesome.

it was part of the fun, and you could tell where your best tune was because the tape would be completely fucked at that point from all the f/fwding and rewinding.

I think the last time i used a tape was in 2000. I compiled a mix tape from old broken beat records so i could play it in my car.
Ahh the joys of pressing rewind, then missing the start of the track you want to play, using sticky tape to join it back together again after a 100 plays, then the reel gets tangled up inside the tape!
I remember paying shit loads of money buying import albums from HMV from the US, only to buy them a few years later on CD cause the tape had been lost or bust!
I suppose its musical evolution to progress to the current digital mp3 format, but i still prefer vinyl anyday.
If the bitch cant swim, she bound to drizzown!

I still have some of my first albums on tape. KLF's White Room, Orbital and stuff like that. I think I have The Experience on tape too, I didn't really stop using tapes until the late 90s, then shifted on to MD and now use my phone. MD still sounds better but I can't be fucked with the little CDs anymore.

When I get an mp3 player that doesnt require that piece of shit program to use I'll stop.
Tell me what you have against iTunes please.
When I try to upload all my music into it, the thing just fucking crashes, I cant exit it and have to reboot my entire computer, and then as soon as it starts up again (which if you're unlucky enough, it will do as soon as you log on) it crashes again.
Its just a pain in the arse. You cant turn off that pointless gapless playback thing and that can cause all sorts of problems etc. etc.
You must have a piece of shit computer....buy more ram.
