I think DH was right really, if you use cubase regularly you know it, of not you give up and use something else.
Macc's (yet again

) groups tutorial was very useful, and well worth a read
http://subvertcentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12000
And his automation tutorial popped up while searching too. read them both a while back, very useful as always

Gotta be said, mans got a way of explaining things in a funny and interesting way.

I'd be lost without the keyboard shortcuts!

Cubase
Can someone throw down a quick tutorial on how to properly set up an effects channel and the sens and all that? Let's say I wanna slap a compresser or an EQ on my drums or bass, would it be better to use an effects channel? lol because I just usually just apply them directly to the VST. Does this effect the automation at all? It seems when I click the automation box all the parameters for whatever vst I'm using don't always show up. Does that make any sense?

go to your vst output channel and add the effect there or you can use a group or fx channel, though i recommend that you use a group channel since the fx channel can't be further routed into another where as with group you can route them to another group etc
as far as automatable parameters go to the channel with the vst/or fx you want to automate, hit the little plus sign under it to expand into the parameters (default being volume most of the time) left click the parameter name and select more... and then you get a list of all available parameters for any inserts on the channel.

My guess is there's more Cubase users that have paid for Cubase, compared to how many people have pirated FL, Reason, etc. From my observations and from working with peeps anyways.
Cubase and Logic seem most common to me actually?
Yoyoyo.

good thread.
i have a question......
Im running sx3 and just installed computer musics CompressiveCM because im poor and cant spent money on one
any way i cant get the sidechane working. if i loaded the compressor as an insert on my sub bass i should be able to send something to the sidechane using the sends right?
but when i click on the sends the compressors not in the list?????
o and I'm getting a lot of latency with all my automation how do i fix this?

Click on the E bro then in those effects, put it in that bad boy, if it don't come up there you've put it in the wrong folder.

read macc's groups tutorial - an fx channel is just a limited group Channel. much better to use a group TBH. linked above.

I think some of that tutorial thing is probably somewhat out of date now, but it might still be useful.
Step Correct seems to be indirectly asking more about inserts vs sends and when to use them, which is a bit of a different topic.

Pretty much, more or less a proper way to hook up group effects and a sends. I'm not sure if I'm going about it the right way.

ah ok
basically add the group track on youe mixer
go to the original cahnnel you want to send to it and in the same window where you would add an effect go to the right side and sends and select the group you just added, set the level and power it on like you would a midi track etc
you can also turn on the prefader option from there next to the power key

Sorry man;
Groups/Sends are typically used when you want a mix of the original and the effect (reverbs, delays) and inserts are generally used when you want to completely affect the result (compressors/eqs etc).
Nothings set in stone, my mate insists on using reverbs as inserts, and changes using the wet/dry parameter. Similarly, theres a style of compression called new york compression where the compressor is used on a send, typically hammered, and mixed in with the original.
The specifics of setting up groups as sends is detailed in maccs tutorials.

anyone know if there is a way to do a "one-button project-compile-and-save" in SX?
by way of explanation: atm when i work on a collab proj i create stems of each individual channel before any studio transfer. normal practice right? but obv the disadvantage of this is that you sacrifice your ability to edit sounds created in say VSTi which were running real time, pre-bounce
what i want to know is... assuming of course that you are working 100% ITB is there a way to instruct cubase to deposite all of the constitents of your track (all source sounds, VSTi settings, sampler drum kits, woteva) into a single folder or your specification?
main benefit would be if you were working with someone with an identical setup you could simply perform the project dump described above, RAR the resulting folder, and ftp it to your creative partner who would unRAR, open with cubase, and instantly access the exact same proj that you were looking at on your machine, with all the same live editability. this process would be mirrored when the track is returned to you.
does this function exist? perhaps in a post-SX version of cubase? or is this blatent wishful thinking
