seems like its just gonna be similiar to serato in a sense. but within a year you'll have wannabe DJ's playing there mp3's on it at parties im sure.......
im not so sure thats a good thing.......
Or somebody's 7 year old gets this for his birthday and it ignites a passion for perfecting his skills, leading him to his 16th birthday present, a set of real decks that he consequently masters and becomes the next badman selecta that makes everyone collectively cream their jeans once this hypothetical messiah DJ unleashes his champion sound on the masses.
I notice that there's a small number of users on this forum that enjoy humping the glass that's half empty. This post was indeed a troll for them.

Have sales of gutars rocketed since Guitar Hero came out?? Id guess no.
Erh, yea they kinda have.

its the same problem with guitar hero as what this will cause..
why waste time getting good at this when the same invested time in the actual instrument would actually be productive.

Would you let your 6 year old kid play with your guitars, or in this case your decks and records?

I Know some of the team who made the game so i've heard some of the levels....The premise is basically re-creating mashups of 2 tracks. Just like Guitar Hero, on Easy, you just press the buttons with the odd baby scratch, but on Hard, the cross fader is involved and the later levels are quite militant whether you dj or not.
The main tracks are obviously gonna be pretty commercial but the scope will blatantly widen with download-able content so i'm sure there will be dubstep, dnb, electro available in the future.
At the end of the day its just a game, so If you don't wanna buy it, don't. But I'm sure it will make a lot of people's Christmas's more fun!

people have to understand that djing (especially with records) is an expensive hobby (or profession depending how good you are). i like the fact that games like this exist. theres a lot of elitist comments in this thread. ill also agree that if this game inspires the next big dj, then hey, thank you Activision.

On a similar tip I got this in my work inbox - Roxio Creator
'Use Creator 2009’s hot new Beatmatching feature to
automatically synchronize beats between tracks and create seamless crossfades between songs that keep the beat
going nonstop. Beatmatching is ideal for workout playlists and music compilations too. You’ll keep the energy high
and create professional-sounding results. Bring out your inner DJ!'
edit - removed bait email link..

This looks pretty cool too, although I'm not sure about the crossfader.
I'm selling my decks and buying both of these games.

Marketing Genius. DJ'ing has blown up in the last few years.
The game looks like fun, and doesn't look like it has the potential to ruin the music scene as people seem to be fearing. Looking forward to a shot of it.
