A butt ugly piano will propably sound crap. That's why (apart from synth1) I won't download any freeware synths that I don't like the interface off.

Also comparing the trackers from those days with say, ableton live, would be comparing a bucket and a stick with a drum kit in terms of functionality...

Although Fastracker 2 is what got me into producing in the first place

Seriously though, in todays world, not having a decent skin/gui is fatal. We have good quality graphics processing facilities, so there is no excuse for unsightly GUIs.

If a program looks awful, I won't use it, even if it sounds great. Good GUI = faster workflow for me, and that is one of my most important considerations when making music. No one likes stuggling to figure shit out when they have a hot idea to get down!!! :o

Some programs are rendered unusable by wierd interfaces imo...

It should be about the music though! :)

One thing I love about ableton is the interface really makes sense - and colours - I love the pretty colours :o
thats because they understand no one wants visual puke on the screen

if im going to be staring at a screen for a long time it better be cool looking and customizable. theres no excuse for ugly daws that cost hundreds of dollars. if you are charging that much, make it look good.

ahright i get it, so that cubase is ONLY for midi'ing hardware sampler and stuff.

as for trackers, they look cool them old ones, onboard sound but what, only 4 polyphonic? it's a bit poor isn't it.

Kinda makes ya wonder what sort of technology is going to make kids say the same thing 20 yrs from now about the kit we are all using.
