RIP - I don't care what the bloke did or didn't in his personally life - was still a great musician and performer, sad day for music in my opinion

you've got to draw the line somewhere! i mean i've listened to and enjoyed hard electro that seemed to have associations of nazism, but molesting kids?Legendary wrote:RIP - I don't care what the bloke did or didn't in his personally life - was still a great musician and performer, sad day for music in my opinion

Its not really what I think of when I think of the guy to be honest - there was 30+ years of amazing music he had done before all that bollocks - how can you neglect that an say hateful and nasty things to a man who has contributed more to music than any of us will ever......Its just e-thuggish and ignorant.d1rt1989 wrote:you've got to draw the line somewhere! i mean i've listened to and enjoyed hard electro that seemed to have associations of nazism, but molesting kids?Legendary wrote:RIP - I don't care what the bloke did or didn't in his personally life - was still a great musician and performer, sad day for music in my opinion

Sure, I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving my kids with him for the weekend... but to diss the music he did before any of that bullshit because of his later character issues is hypocritical.
Everyone loves to think that the artists they love & admire are wonderful people. Some are wonderful, but the truth is, some are complete assholes. Some are assholes due to the worldwide attention, some were assholes all along. It doesn't matter really. Given enough time, being a dick will wash away and if the art was special enough, it will endure.
Also- to those who say Quincy Jones was the real talent behind Off the Wall & Thriller... I can't argue on one hand, because Q is a genius (of course, his own albums sucked). However, no one but MJ could have performed those songs like he did. It is like saying Phil Jackson was the true genius behind Michael Jordan. It is true that no one puts the whole package together like Phil Jackson (even tho he never played on the level of the players he coaches)... but only Michael Jordan could make the plays the MJ made.
So if people wanna hate- go ahead and hate. But for those of us who bought the Off the Wall and/or Thriller vinyl as our first record before we even reached a double digit age... and spun that shit endlessly for years. And for those of us who had the sparkly gloves and shades... and behind all the dancing, spent loads of time in our rooms wondering how music could affect us so deeply... we raise our glasses and say "Thanks Michael... (you fucking freak)".

Well, first of all- there's a diss right there.nowaysj wrote:Exactly how many people would he have to harm before it tipped the scales in your opinion? 30 years of music versus drugging and raping little boys? You can keep billy jean, the world is better off without him.
As I said, as a parent I might be wary due to speculation... but that doesn't mean it happened. Same way that I might hear a rumor about some kid at school and not let my kids spend time with him/her... as a parent I decide to be overly critical (just in case), but that doesn't automatically mean the kid in question is a bad apple.
It also just isn't 30 years of his music-- but the fact that you would be hard pressed to find ANYONE who wrote good music in the past 30 years that wasn't directly or indirectly influenced by MJ. Especially for electronic music lovers... pretty much all electronic dance music can be traced back to house music which came from disco. And while MJ can't be credited for ALL of disco... most of the best disco music was either made by him or influenced by him.
Also- show me someone older than 20-25 who says they didn't love Thriller and I will show you a liar.

It's good to be so confident of your view, that you can without an doubt diss dead people.nowaysj wrote:Exactly how many people would he have to harm before it tipped the scales in your opinion? 30 years of music versus drugging and raping little boys? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I want to believe that a grown man can be so innocent as to sleep (literally) with random children. But if I'm being honest with myself, come on...
I honestly don't know what the hell was going on with Jacko and kids. But it would be stupid to assume the worst, people can be just simply weird without harming anyone. I don't think that MJ ever was a "grown man".
RIP tho, best pop ever made.
i'm an 'e-thug' for condemning child molestation. ok.Legendary wrote:Its not really what I think of when I think of the guy to be honest - there was 30+ years of amazing music he had done before all that bollocks - how can you neglect that an say hateful and nasty things to a man who has contributed more to music than any of us will ever......Its just e-thuggish and ignorant.d1rt1989 wrote:you've got to draw the line somewhere! i mean i've listened to and enjoyed hard electro that seemed to have associations of nazism, but molesting kids?Legendary wrote:RIP - I don't care what the bloke did or didn't in his personally life - was still a great musician and performer, sad day for music in my opinion

what if he molested your kids? then would it pale in comparison to his years of amazing music?
