In terms of playing around with musical patterns and finding a balance, maths is at the core of music. Which is really the only extent to which I use maths in music.....But as soon as music lacks that pattern based structure it sooner becomes noise.
I remember back in my metal days sitting down and analysing beat patterns of Meshuggah
