I don't think I would have got in to dubstep if I hadn't pirated a shit load of it at the start, now I buy as much as I can afford and pirate the rest.

Although how many people would have discovered dubstep if it wasn't for piracy?

That's what I'm saying, how apparently it's cool to pirate everything except for Dubstep.

I'm not one to argue, I'm wearing stolen boxers.

If I like it enough I'll pay for it - I use my Steam account to download games (paid for) but only after having a bash with it after I have downloaded it. Although I still haven't bought Fallout 3 and got my Xbox chipped as the games are a fortune for that.

Most of my dubstep and roots reggae stuff I have downloaded because it's either too hard or expensive to get a hold of. I thought it was interesting what Radiohead did with their album In Rainbows, but they can afford to do that, they're one of the biggest bands in the world.

Piracy has it's place and like everything if taken to excess than it can be damaging. However Hollywood, big record labels, games companies et al still make more money in an hour than we'll make in a life time and how much of it is filtered down to the individual artist is questionable.

yeah and its just 1's and 0's flying around, and its not real, and i'm only making a copy. plus by downloading it without paying for the hardwork put into the track and the cost of mastering, i don't help financially support the very place from which the music comes from, but i have the audacity to cry for entitlement on the internet about it.

LA...LA....LA...LA.....YAWN....
its fucking stealing. this isn't major label music. people make next to nothing on their hard work in this sound. go ahead and justify it anyway you want but you know its wrong, so spare us the moany hypocrisy tirades. if you don't pay for your mp3's, when you know you should be paying for them, then at least have the respect to be quiet about it on this site. otherwise, you're just part of problem and not part of the progress.

thanks what DJ's are for.

and if you have ever attempted to BUY music, you'll notice 99.9% of all releases have a sample beside the track.

and lol at dubstep and roots reggae being too expensive or too hard to get ahold of - you'd rather just get it for free mate along with your xbox games yr just a tight one~!

or you could just not have those tunes to put into yr ipod hmm? plennnty of free stuff circulating the net, so much more so than released stuff

and yr argument about hollywood making money so pirating is ok is bollocks cuz hollywood has nothing to do with the music you referenced - its all individual folks like you and me

I don't think access to media should be restricted by wealth.

see.... the more people justify that piracy is ok, just because "themselves are doing it"... the more it instills this idea in others.

the artists of media are killed by the acts of the few, who contribute to the collective.

more people with those ideas = less money as a whole.

there's tons of media to be had that doesn't cost anything other than you ISP fees

pirated material has gone out of its way to make rights reserved material free and open to pirates

and it doesnt really matter what you think, the people who actually produce and create don't care where you stand philosophically on issues of property they'd like the cut you took from them

I can honestly say the only music i've downloaded in the last year has been stuff i've never seen on the shelf...and if i love it i buy it off discogs or for a good price...

for me the beauty of owning a cd or record is worth paying for...and if you're clever you wait till you see it for a good price...

i waited ages before i bought arecibo message for example and it was all the better for the wait...

you can get most good drum & bass albums on discogs for a fiver or less...

although i suppose that takes us into a whole different field of debate..i'd be interested to hear seckles view on it....what about buying a cd and selling it on?

I keep everything i like but i sell everything i don't..that of course means i am getting paid for the sale having bought it legally

I spend a fortune once a month in fopp or oxford street hmv...just a one time thing and i have more than enough to get through the month afterward...my job isnt that well paid so im sure others could buy more and spend less on getting pissed...
