Because both the people who keep tuning in and the DJs who keep playing there support the decisions that have been made by doing so. There is no way around it, regardless of whether the people involved disagree with Sarah and Geeneus or not. As long as these people remain with Rinse and support their activities, it's the same as not speaking up and letting them do as they please.

ugh, kinda sickening to read this type of political garbage happen so soon in a scene thats against such things. Dubstep shouldnt be a genre that these types of decisions from people who are trying to make a buck can intervene or prevent.. workers should be given their proper dues, and it seems Deapoh has put in his blood into the scene with Barefiles amongst other things as well. IMO its plain and simple the next things to take place. I would suggest that the DJs wield the power they have, and say fuck off to rinse (probably easier said than done). Establish a new following. With the names of Distance, D1, Skream, Hatcha, etc... fucking anything can be extremely successful and be the next thing, or join a previously established radio station. But send a message that bad business and capitalist mentality isnt fucking welcome.

People who say, "well I wont buy the podcast but still tune in", thats just defeatism. Im completely fucked myself, because I love Tempa's releases, yet Im conflicted because I dont want to fuck over the artist. But like in hip-hop today, its all owned by white motherfuckers in suits making the decisions from above (I know its not as bad as that and Im kinda using a slippery slope fallacy) but you get the idea. The point is if you give them an inch, they will keep pushing for more and more room.

I wanted to bring attension what was happening, not make everyone stop buying Tempa releases or stop people from locking to Rinse FM.

I guess the only reasonable boycott would be to not listen via the podcast if thats what you really want. No pressure on anyone.

I myself may sometimes lock into Rinse because I wish to support the DJs, hear new tunes etc but I also will not be downloading from the podcast.

personally, i don't think it's as black and white as u paint it...

this example has been used before, but i'll use it again 'cos i think it illustrates the point well...

those of us who buy nike trainers (yourself included probably) buy them knowing that somewhere along the line the guys at the top have made the 'decision' that it's okay to exploit people in third word countries...by your reasoning, every person who has ever bought a pair of nikes agrees with and supports this decision.

i don't think this is the case at all. standardly, the world isn't perfect, and u often come across things you're really opposed to, but at the same time u have to be pragmatic and see the bigger picture.

i do however agree that perhaps some of artists involved with rinse should speak up, but i'm sure the time will come.

Big up Deapoh.

Aint too smart on their part is it though. Ever heard of PR Ammunition? There's no doubt that they've damaged their reputation, (which in my experience was already pretty shit from using a couple of their services).

No doubt that the Rinse DJ's are gonna suffer as a result, which obviously aint good.

Although I can understand their intentions from a business perspective, the way in which they have appeared to go about it is a bit waste.

I don't see attitudes gettin any better for them unless they decide to respond.

There is no way of this ever happening. Even if the DJs decided to fuck themselves over by leaving Rinse, they would be doing the same to Tempa, FWD etc. Just not guna happen and definately not the best way to sort anything out.

Not much more can be said until one of two people comes forward.

old model thinking.

barefiles most def fed me while i first hungered for the sound... good looking out deapoh!!

old model thinking in business while dealing with new media is doomed. the industry is doomed, as is anyone who put their all into becoming a part of it...

seems to me rinse killed off a better grassroots advertising campaign than you could ever get paying the most successfull ad agencies mad $$$ to do... becuase it was real....

that being said, i think its slightly silly all this talk about keeping things "underground" and defining what the "scene" is about.... the only reason any music, dubstep or whatever, is CALLED what it is (dubstep or whatever) is to sell it. period. the best thing about "dubstep" imo is the lack of definition, pretty much anything goes, and that ESSENCE cant sell out.... whatever you wanna call it..

if you really believe in something, if something is your shit, life changing, great, positive, FUN, etc... dont you want as many people as possible exposed to it?

anyways, totally imo a decision that was up to Rinse to make, altho i see it being a very not fwd thinking one....

collaborate.

I suppose the Rinse djs have been told to stay off this topic really.

I still listen to Rinse and will still buy tempa but like deapoh said, don't download the podcasts

thats a shame. we don't need garbage like this in such a small scene like dubstep.

honestly, its music, its a small scene. It's such a low profit business anyway, seriously what difference would it make if you monopolize dubstep?

Without barefiles I never wouldn't have gotten into dubstep... big up deapoh and barefiles - you got my support.
