The one at 0:49, the one at 0:52 and the one at 1:01 (the high pitch one) would be great dude! :) Good job on those, tune is sick.

Here is a link to download the Ableton file of that talky bass and the high-pitched sound. There are a shitload of plugins used..sorry for the craziness/inconvenience, but the MIDI notes are in there with all the automation. I've been meaning to clean these up as there is some unwanted noise and stuff, and they could be tweaked to be a little clearer overall, but this should be helpful. I think that even if you have most of the plugins you'll get the idea/ be able to fill in the blanks with what plugins you have.

Assuming you use Ableton and have its native plugins, these are the third-party plugins that I used:
U-he bundle
Filterbank3
Kombinat
Sausage Fattener
Fabfilter Pro-Q
PSP Mixsaturator
Waves L3 Multimaximizer
Sylenth
Fabfilter Twin2

Let me know if you need anything else or want some other patch explanations! :D

Awwww nuts :( Using FL studio over here...Maybe a quick text description of what you did instead? Like I guess just what synths and stuff, or maybe a screenshot or two? That would be hugely helpful.

Hate DAW incompatibility :/ haha you're doing a great thing though dude

oh ok, well in that case probably tomorrow when I have time I will just post a detailed description of what is going on so you can get something out of it!

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! Haha seriously, that's too kind of you, much appreciated. Don't go out of your way though, just a short description is fine, mainly what things were manipulated and in what synth to get it the way you have it. I've already gotten my own growls down pat so it's not like I want to copy what you did, just learn from it and maybe improve what I've put together :W:

Here is a link to 3 screenshots I took, one for each sound. (2 very similar sounding skrillexy bass sounds and 1 high-pitched thing)

#1 is a shot of the sylenth patch.. that's all it is. I just used the Mod envelope to do the BWOOP thing with the pitch and the arpeggiator repeats it.

#2 is a shot of this bass http://www.mediafire.com/?iwrzzf94tpcfevk. I made it so you can see everything in the chain as well as the synth and effects' parameters. It should be pretty straightforward to see what's going on!
EDIT* the top Kombinat in the shot is the first one in the chain.

#3 has so much shit going on in it. If you don't have Ableton, I would probably just look at the order of the stuff in the chain.

I hope this is helpful, let me know if you guys need anything else!

How can I recreate this sound (ITS NOT SKRILLEX)

I'm really loving the handful of songs I've heard from skeptiks right now and was wondering if anyone can help me achieve a sound similar to the first bass note heard in this song
around 55 seconds. Its like a pitch bend type thing. The same type of thing is repeated 3 times at 1:01 with a little call and response bass line. Seems plain enough, but I can't quite get it right.

Anyways if anyone can help me achieve this using massive or some other terms i could translate in to massive, that would be sweet. Thanks

yeah now that totally doesnt sound like someone copying skrillex
now i'd say stick to FM synthesis and formant eq'ing, people doing that have posted the closest replicas of that type of sound on here.

Man I wish I just had Ableton at this point hahah. The only thing I was really curious about outside of the foundation patch (which I figured was probably something basic, which it is so that's not my interest) is just what was automated in the effects or the synth? All the other details are things I can already achieve on my own with tweaking, my issue is getting that proper, enunciated and spot-on Skrillex-y growl the way you have it. Is it automated EQs? A series of filters? Are you automating some of the cutoffs in the synth as well?

See, in this little WIP I've got here, I've got some lower grumblier growls that are close to the lower ones Skrillex has (at least I think) and at about 1:50ish I start another synth using the automated EQ peaks/valley trick but again it's kind of a bastardized form of what we're trying to achieve in this thread.
Soundcloud

I just want to stress again that you're very kind for being so helpful, I'm sure plenty of people will benefit from your tips, and I hope to return the favor eventually because being helpful and sharing ideas is what makes this place worth coming to.

Thanks man I'm always happy to help. Ok, I see what specific details you're looking for. I can give you a more detailed description tomorrow if you'd like but essentially, the way I got it to get that talky motion was (with FabFilter Twin2) to set up the filters to be parallel and leave one of them off so it's just the clean signal, and have the other filter on lowpassed with a big bump in resonance and that ends boosting one specific little spot in the frequency spectrum, and Twin2 just has really unique and precise filters and it just gives you a bunch of crazy garbly mouth stuff like that. So then I assigned that filter's cutoff to a macro control in Ableton for the purpose of then being able to set a minimum and maximum range for the knob in order to have it so the full range of knob movement is just basically calibrated to only move over that little sweet spot in the cutoff. Here is a screenshot http://www.mediafire.com/?tlm550bxp7bneyo . It's all about that aforementioned stuff, AND the vocoder which you can see in the shot as well. Those are where 80% of the characteristics of that sound are coming from.

I heard this track in an excision set and was convinced that it was skrillex.

that sound is really easy to make in FM8. I made it almost exactly...

and this might as well be a skrillex thread lol
