like i said you just need to put in a fake US address
steam is a necessary evil for PC gaming, and a damn good one as far as DRM goes

it's an alpha man, of course it will get polish on the server infrastructure and code as it proceeds
just look at the changelog for today' update and you'll see he's still realizing ideas and coming up with things
alphas are not a polish stage

I have a very random question.
Roughly how much data does a 1hour online session use?

no idea, haven't gauged it, but if you want i can try to meter it, but i also have some other realtime apps usually open (skype, desktop twitter roll, rss feeds etc)
you should try to ask on the day z forum

never got the whole metered bandwidth thing as i guess i'm spoiled in the US

Yeh I have to kind of balance 10-20gb depending on how much my isp allows.
I have a contract for 10gb but I`ve been getting 20 now for the past few months.
I can't complain about speed though.

I could go for a slow uncapped option but I hate slow connections.

[NEW] Water can be filled in ponds

They need to add a 'roll the dice' type thing where players have a chance to get malaria if they drink from ponds! Then you get an infection and cough etc, walk slow. I signed up for the suggestions forum but never got a confirm email.

Not a whole lot, maybe 100MB per hour at most I would think. Depends on the game though, something like this needs lots more updates sent/received from servers including voicechat other than just player info.

Download free Netmeter, you can see how much bandwidth you used per day/week/month/forever. It will sit in your system tray and count, but for your purpose make sure it's only open when you play the game. Then check the usage right afterward. It's a great tool. It tells me this month I've uploaded 893MB and downloaded 21.5GB. Damn youtube.

Mine took 24 hours lol killed me

New updates a bit wonky definitely, everyones getting lower fps. Seem to be getting into games more regularly though which is good. And when youre in, with my graphics set to veeery low it works fine. Just annoying that I got it running really nice with good graphics last night ha never mind, not about the graphics!

Just had a well intense encounter in a corridor. I could tell someone was around, and we both walked out facing each other round a corner. Both panic fired, knocked each other down for a few secs, then got raped by zombies ha

How scary would you rate this game? Do things jump out at you and shit, i hate that stuff more than anything. Just tell me what server you guys are in and i'll never leave your sides lol

ha, can do, but im always on different servers. Theyre all so full that you just have to jump in the first space you see on a server with decent ping. Once youre in you can then try and link people up with some steam chat or something!

Then theres finding each other lol Ive probably played maybe 10 hours or so, and im beginning to get a feel for the 2 big cities, and the coast line a bit. Beyond that though, ive only found a map once and a compass a couple times, and never together lol There is a global text chat thing tho

Oh, and its not jumpy scary, its just well intense! Especially at night, even walking through open fields shits you up hard...jumpy things can happen though, just today i bumped into someone in the middle of a building and we both totally panicked and blew each other away lol all fun tho!

Mannnn, i have not been so excited to play a game since i was 14 or something... i'm purposely not watching youtube clips and i;m just reading the general hype from this thread. Really hope it doesn't disappoint!

Do you get random dickheads that kill people for no reason though? I don't mind this "perma death" concept and welcome it (every time i die on RotMG i almost cry though) but if it does down like that i'll probably just freakout.

How detailed and open are the maps? You said you were in a corridor, can you go into loads of buildings and stuff? Because if you can then mannnn, it sounds like this game is like how every zombie movie should be, and every zombie game should be. Like a more grounded-in-realism Dead Rising? Sorry about being an annoying "noob" as im sure they say, just hyped to play, really bored, and this download is killing me! 2/6gb done on expansion, 2 hours remaining, still need to install main game :(

Does this game not favour experienced players, as they've had the chance to be in the game world longer, build up their supplies etc...just to go hunting on new players?

pretty much everyone is a dickhead, that's the mentality you need to have
half of the scariness and immersion is the permadeath aspect that it's not the zombies you need to worry about, but the other players
mapwise it's sandbox 225km island with varying environments based off an island in the czech republic as i recall
http://freethoughtblogs.com/wwjtd/files ... yZ-Map.jpg

let me put it this way, i partied up with randomers asking if friendly or not before approaching for awhile, and last few days did the same and had them gank me which turned me into a bandit who shoots anyone i come across i don't know, but in general if i can avoid them i do to conserve ammo

it's a deeply immersive and addictive game once you get into it
wub wrote:Does this game not favour experienced players, as they've had the chance to be in the game world longer, build up their supplies etc...just to go hunting on new players?
it's real life based, so it favors tactics and thinking smart vs having the best stuff
i've had some lower gear and taken out people with plenty better just by being patient or flanking them
it's not like most mil arcade games where you take a shot and keep fighting, you start bleeding out, maybe faint from the pain or just die from a well aimed shot even from a shit gun

Oh okay then cool, so its sort of "kill or be killed"? Be wary of everyone etc. just like in zombie movies?
