The men in this thread need to read Finally Feminism 101 blog and learn about male privilege before having this discussion.

Not really. You've just joined in on a conversation where we're naming numerous female DJs who have gone onto critical/commercial success, proving that the only walls BM is facing at THIS moment are in her head. Plenty of people out there have forgotten about gender issues that may or may not be there, got on with it, gained a following, and progressed to the point where some of them are residents at huge venues.

BM, record some mixes, get on an online station, if they're good enough, you'll gain a following, and then speak to promoters. I mean, up to the point you step on the decks, they needn't even know your gender. If there's an issue when they find out, then fuck those guys, you really wanna play at their nights anyway?

Yes, there's glass ceilings and obstacles for women in society, but plenty of people have managed to get over them and become successful DJs.

Also I would have thought it would work in your favour being female in some cases as its not that common compared to male Djs. So if you had two of "equal" skill for an opening slot a girl would be a slightly bit more intresting.. I guess.

So it's all in my head - Yet here is Maya Jane Coles expressing exactly the same thing...I'm not making it up - that's everyday standard

but I have previously experienced quite judgemental attitudes from fellow male producers when I first tell them what I do. Obviously being a young female producer a lot of guys would write me off a shit before they’ve actually heard any of my music. So sometimes it has been hard to be taken seriously on initial meeting!.... I think sometimes people get a bit shocked or maybe threatened.

Not saying it's impossible to get past - even for a less attractive person - but it's still a truth.

Am I experiencing it - this instant - in reality - not in regards to Djing...because I'm not doing that in this exact minute

But in regards to curating a conversation - yes

Some people are trying to tell me I'm shit - in this very thread

Instead of contributing - they just want to tell me I'm wrong.

That's like trying to tell a black person racism doesn't exist.

They don't need you to tell them what is real - You just need to listen
- and if you are capable of compassion you could offer some insight from your own perspective.

But don't marginalize my experience by suggesting I'm prone to victimization fantasy.

I'm not stupid.
