I do find it quite odd that the most bland album on the list won. :p

Maybe in 17 years when Burial has released another 17 albums he'll finally win too

Hmm, clearly you arent that familiar with Estelle mate, check out domestic science, she kills it with Wildflower and Tempa...from Skitz classic Countryman lp (2001)

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the current durge she is putting out, but can't blame her wanting to get paid, shes paid her dues.

Anyway big up Burial, you hardly needed the approval of Jools Holland anyway! :D

im kind of glad he didnt win. I dont think the industry heads that run mecury actually get what burial is about, they just pretend to to look like they now about music and the underground scene, would have been an empty victory imo.

Feel sorry for burial though, you get like 50 grand for winning, i know hes not bout the money, but still!

Elbow are shit by the way, radiohead should have won if not burial, the rest of the albums were pretty average.

oh well, at least he wont go the way of Dizzee rascal :P

Meeeeeeeeh. So gay. I'm fairly sure that sound on the elbow album has been done before.

Untrue is unlike anything made ever before.

I think they shit one coz he didn't turn up.. what would have happend?

Was routing for Burial, Radiohead or Laura Marling (gorgeous + talented).

...but elbow.. fucking elbow.

agreed. bad call.. still though, he was nomiated. way i see it, the nominees of mercury are pretty much always the 'winners' .. their music is generally better and they're not stigmatized by the hot spot of 'win'.

well done burial for getting the nomination. good fuckin work homes.

Yeah, it's going to be loads of bonus cash for Burial and for Hyperdub. And tbh anything that results in Hyperdub getting fat stacks of cash to spend on rolling out more releases can only be a good thing for everyone.

But they might as well choose the actual winner by rolling a dice, there's no way you're ever going to please more than about 10% of people or come up with anything 'meaningful' if you're trying to pick a single album out of everything that's come out that year to be in some way 'the best'. Christ, I couldn't pick my favorite record of the past year to my own satisfaction, how the hell are a bunch of judges going to do it?

Burial probably wouldn't even turn up to his own funeral.

I knew he wouldnt win because of the fact he wouldnt turn up.
Same thing happened back when Original Pirate Material got nominated.
That should have walked it as well but Mike Skinner didnt show for the ceremony so it went elsewhere (something shit as far as I can remember)
