i've resisted the temptation to get involved in this (rather silly) thread, but thats a statement nailing your colours to a flag if ever i've heard one. oh dear
2step just doesnt get played in our underground circuit. i like the original track, but that doesn't mean it wouldnt stick out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the music played at our parties.
what gets played there then??

dubstep, tearout drumnbass, liquidfunk, acid, hardcore, handful of others. you act as if not playing garage is some kind of oddity. i've heard less than 10 2step/garage tracks played out in the 10 years i've been into edm. it's just not popular here, we get our soulful edm from House.

I think they meant relative to producing drum n bass - hard to even get a release in drum n bass unless you sound exactly the same as everyone else.

ah so that's what the fuss was about. yeah i also think it was a reference to dnb, which relatively speaking it's much easier [for them or in general, take it either way you wish] to be original with dubstep. so many things have already been done in dnb, it's easy to think you're doing something new only to find out it's been done before.

Do you not think that all these shitty Drum & Waste producers are bringing there out of date, overworked, elements, that became stale in D&B to dubstep, and calling it Original??

Its like bringing D&B down a few BPM's to 140, slapping some swag jah rastafari sample on it, HARDEST snare & kick imaginable, generic albino wobble, and oh look, im dubstep, yar..

Basically, the majority of Dubstep sounds like slow Drum & Bass, but even more tearout

and shit...

oh and P.S, im not just saying D&B producers do this, even the original dubstep producers tunes are going this way....which is a shame, really, why am i even saying this, eveyrone knows it anyway

some call taking pre-existing musical elements and applying them to new things "innovation." it's practically the definitive means in which music has evolved since tribal drums.

The originals are still there though right?

You'd swear by the way some people are going on that the original has been overwritten.

Your talking about midrange like its something new - I remember just how kack a lot of older midrange dubstep sounded like before any DNB producers got involved. Hearing dubstep producers copying their basses at a slower tempo and doing it badly is probably what inspired a lot of DNB producers to write dubstep in the first place. Back in 2005 I don't think half the midrange dubstep tunes I heard even had any processing on the bass just the boring as fuk dry albino wobbles.

Whats with all this musical facism anyway? I don't listen to RNB but I know I'd be talking out of my arse if I said that all RNB is shit. 98% of the midrange I hear isn't my cup of tea but I don't feel the need to tell the producers I don't like their music its only music for fucks sake!

bruv, there is no beef, I dont mind midrange step, as long as its done well, as i said, no kack mid range, some of it is quality (hate to say it, but espec some of the older bits & bobs)..

its annoying when poor midrange stuff overshadow's real quality, as with quantity over quality, unfortunately some quality falls by the wayside..:-(

Would be quite funny if all wobble got herded into a sub genre called 'Midrange'.

Don't worry yourselves lads, it was a joke. It was the only thing I could think of that would rile people more than this Sincere fuckwith.

@ kaib0rg - obviously music has structure and as such is predictable you fucking pedantic tool, however, knowing what a DJ is going to play, how they're going to mix and what a dub is going to do other than follow a predictable pattern of kicks and snares to some form of break down (possibly) makes the music unpredictable, or at least it did until every tune became halfstep dnb jump-up toss. That makes sets predictable, that makes tunes predictable.

The very allure of music lies in it's creating of interesting rhythmic and melodic affects from what as you say are predictable mathematics. You obviously know that too so stop being a fucking pedant.

Dunno if you mean bullshit about what Nero was saying or bullshit about it being hard to get ahead in DNB. I just found that as soon as I'd had enough of writing jumpup DNB it was a right mission finding new labels and even when I did DJs ended up saying they wanted tunes then sitting on them for ages just so they could play them out exclusively - why do u think so many new producers are writing dubstep and not DNB?
