I'm still expecting him to sign a new deal for you tbh
The reason he's on the bench is because he's refusing to
sign a new contract. He states it's down to wanting the
role up front and that it's not about money. I have my
suspicions on that.
IF it is RE: the role up front, he should know that he's not
going to do better in the middle than he is on the side.
He states he wants to emulate Henry, but Henry would
often drag wide then run in from the left to continue his
on run to goal. He's already in the prime position to do that.
He prefers to run in a straight line/into defenders, but he
doesn't have the skills to beat his man. The only way he can
is generally with his pace, so he needs to be playing off the
shoulder - however, he's not skilled enough to do that either.
He has a propensity to run to the line and cross it in like a
typical winger, but he doesn't try and beat his man like Oxo
does, which is something Henry, Pires and Ljungberg could
do repeatedly.
We operate an inverse 4-3-3, and we have done for a while.
Last season RvP was the big man/false 9 that would hold the
ball for supporting attackers to make their run-ons if he wasn't
looking to attack the ball himself.
The only difference between RvP and Giroud atm is that Giroud
has not found his scoring feet. There is no way that all 5'10 of
Walcott is good enough to be a target man, and as I said, he
doesn't have the ability to beat his man off the shoulder like
David Villa does (for example). He knows what it means in terms
of money and fame to be Henry, but if he doesn't even have the
tactical nous to understand that he IS already in the Henry role
and needs to adapt his game (which I doubt he has the ability to
do) in order to exploit it - he will continue to fail succeeding at
Arsenal. This is why Oxo and even Gervinho are being preferred
to Walcott at the moment.
Wenger and Bould aren't going to fire up the DeLorean to 2006 and
change the system back to a 4-4-2/4-5-1 just for Walcott.
