future garage doesn't have that vibe that ukg has. fg tries to be dark and moody which is in contrast to ukg's upbeat, happy, and party vibe.

Anyway point is Future Garage just strikes me as a desperate attempt to do something new with garage which results in not only music that's actually going to sound more dated than UKG in the future as it's so painfully full of the current cliches of this era we are in now of electronic music but a genre that loses all of the fun of original UK garage. I mean this in all styles of UKG too. None of it is as catchy, energetic and fun as the poppy stuff or has the grimey sounds and driving rhythm of the darker side of it either. It lacks the vibes overall.

I think a lot of it can be summed up by the name. I mean "future garage". It's so pretentious. Creating new interesting music doesn't come from simply taking an established genre and pushing as much of this "we're doing something new/deep/future" attitude into it as that results in very dull unfun music that actually still sounds incredibly derivative. It's like when "IDM" was really popular and you got loads of producers who instead of experimenting with different sounds and production techniques like the people who laid the foundations for it did they just made music that aimed to sound like "IDM" that didn't offer anything that new and was fucking boring.

I have this whole reputation of only listening to unmelodic 200 bpm distoted noise tho.
