You're making a groundless assumption. You are basically saying because I don't listen to a certain subset of artists that I can't come to the conclusion that another artist is good.Nevalo wrote:ah, well theres the problem.Soul Of Seun wrote:Not really. when you listen to the sound they're tyring to rip off (ie chandler, dope, terry, morillo) you realise its just a piss poor, increadibly soulless imitation.
Also saying something is soulless is intellectually lazy, generic, cliched and content free. It's absolutely meaningless and completely subjective because the definition of Soul (other than the genre of R&B/Soul) varies widely depending upon the person.
Also the majority of the professional music critic community for the most part disagrees that Disclosure is a cheap imitation as Settle is among the most critically acclaimed electronic albums of year so far.
And generally what I find is music fans make the determination of what is "ripped off" and what is "influenced by" on whether or not they like a particular artist. If they like an artist that sounds like similar groups they're paying homage, if they dislike the group they're "stealing."
Is music often not grounded in similar work? Was early dubstep not stylistically similar to darker garage?
