Nah, needs to remain in Studio 54 style old disco ONLY sets.

Man, if I was of age when Studio 54 was still around, I'd be best friends with Nile Rogers, I would've done all the cocaine and probably would've got all the female members of Chic pregnant.
yeah i'd love that too, but realistically everywhere i play out won't stand for a 54 set followed by someone playing super-compressed ministry of sound 4 note "deep house", which is unfortunately where the money is.

and yeah i agree ray, good edits are hard to come by. most of the ones i play are either dimitri from paris ones (often done from the original tapes) or the 12" edits that got released at the time.

Hmm... something going on on the South Bank by Millennium Bridge/Tate Modern. The stretch outside the gallery alongside the river is all cordoned off, the bridge is closed and there are police milling about EVERYWHERE.

The problem is that if people tried to get on disco not enough people are going to be able to write songs to that standard. I'll probably have plastic horrible sounding recordings of any live instruments (if any) and even if people went down the boogie or post-disco styles it's probably not going to have that classic sound and those big minmoog basslines (like Howard Johnson does on "So Fine"

A disco revival would most likely consist of someone along the lines of Skream or Disclosure using some 808 samples, standard synth sounds and some nob like Sam Frank not succeeding in being able to sing the style too good or just a load of samples with drums put on them. All of it would be compressed to hell too and sound super flat to make it fit in with the ironically shallow "deep house" people have decided they suddenly like now that standard dubstep has lost most its fans

This, basically. Sam Frank would be involved SOMEWHERE.

I dunno if I'm looking in the wrong places, but most of the recent disco I see coming out is whack. Any recommendations? Pretty much the only piece I've enjoyed (but REALLY enjoyed) in the last few years is:

Is there a technical reason why the Get Darker streams have such weak sub nowadays? Is it a compromise they have to make for overall clarity or something?

I can't remmember what the guy was called, but I recently heard a mix from some ukrainian dj that made 'dark disco'.
It was very authentic sounding and you couldn't actually locate what was sampled and what was played. Very playfull and with a lot of melody. I'll see if I can find it again.
