I'm reading "The Slap" by Christos Tsiolkas. At a barbecue one day an adult slaps a kid and the book follows the lives of the people who were there in a series of chapters for each person. Very good but my interest is waning towards the end so I'm looking forward to finishing it.

^^did a module on that a few moths ago. It's a rewarding read but I doubt I'd recommend it without serious reservations. It's a great book but not exactly enjoyable. It's pretty much the definition of pretentious.

That sums it up quite nicely. You'll read it for a few hours then look back and think, "That was really good actually." but then have to really motivate yourself to pick it up again.

Very good story about a caver and his creepy experiences inside this one cave. Just started reading it so I dont really know everything that happens.
Worth a try, at least. I believe it's true since he has pictures and it is believable.

Bumpage, anyone read anything good recently?
Recently:

Mind... blown.... I've been putting it back together piece by piece ever since. No book with this many graphs should be so enjoyable.

Amazing. Read this.

Meh. His histories are great, his ramblings are.... rambling.

Read this on a Ninja recommendation - absolutely brilliant read and not so ancient that it's "difficult" English. Essential context for anyone who's bombarded with conspiracy theories nowadays - they've always existed, always sounded pretty similar and normally been wrong... and people have been bashing their heads against their desks because of people like Parson and Alien Pimp for centuries.
Just re-read this because I found myself talking about it and not remembering a few things:

I'd forgotten how much he savages Chomsky at the end!

Currently:

Beware buying books based on 2D cover photos... this is fucking HUGE. I might not be posting in this thread for a couple of months!!

I just polished this off last night, found it dragged on a bit personally. Got me interested enough to take a look at some of his other titles though.
