Sentiment is the same though. I swear, forums/messageboards must exist in a permenant state of looking over their shoulder at the greener pastures that have come to pass.

Nope.
I'm not comparing this to the past or to greener pastures.
I'm talking about the number of shitty locked post and waste threads.
You can't tell me your locking finger isn't getting tired.
This morning alone you've locked more than 10 threads.

And I am dangerously close to engorged as a result.

TBF though, a few of those posts are just repeat threads in Production where folk haven't used the search function, you get gluts of that from time to time.

Locking a thread is actually an Option when you have the Post A Reply dialogue box open;

Disable BBCode
Disable smilies
Do not automatically parse URLs
Attach a signature (signatures can be altered via the UCP)
Notify me when a reply is posted
Lock topic

So it's not really any extra effort one way or the other. Moving/merging/trashing threads actually takes more clicks on my part, at least three to select Merge (for example), then select the thread, then confirm, then view new thread blahblahblah.

Head on a spike ftw.

More than likely...was it production orientated? I do those from time to time as a 'state of the nation' style discussion area where we bounce ideas off about things to mix up the Production board a bit and keep it more streamlined and bereft of the "how I maek dis noize?" detritus.
