I might be misinterpreting here, but seems like you just contradicted yourself?
It seems like jokes because it was totally different from the current situation.

that's right snort at people who've been supporting this culture for years, listening to radio shows, putting up nights, buying records from their last dimes, travelling to London and the rest of Europe just to go to a night. I can proudly say I'm one of those.
I wonder how much of that culture is still present in the current state of affairs.

And then you get treated like an asshole by some mod (who's post I can appreciate most of the time by the way). You're simply wrong mate. Breakstep was half a dozen producers and three or four labels. How you can possibly compare that to this situation is beyond me.

Sure, oldskool dubstep (let's call it that to keep the peace) will continue to grow in the underground, with new styles. BUT:
I just, only a page ago, politely said I don't think DSF needs to distinguish between bro and dubstep and there should be a place for both, but people are getting forced to listen to this at nights because there are so little alternatives out there. And it are always the same people who have to take the bad with good. Sure, it might all be temporarily and have some sort of happy ending, but right now that's not helping many people out there.

You might not agree, but the lassitude by some "important" figures in the scene towards that new movement didn't do an important section of its fans any fucking good this day. And if subject matter like that can't be debated in threads like these....

The reason this thread exists, as Pete & I discussed we when first came up with the idea, is that it's a catch all place for Skrillex/Brostep related chat. It's either this, or the half dozen or so weekly threads about the subject that descend into clusterfucks. This thread keeps the clusterfuckery all in one place.

I couldn't agree more on that. Maybe I got two posts mixed up there as well, sorry for that.

I'd say there are more alternatives now than ever in terms of the actual music. The issue now is that promoters cannot get large venues, good enough to represent the music properly, without taking a big risk that the night won't make its minimums without a commercial well known headliner for the draw. Its exactly the same thing that jungle faced, between venue size/ venue soundsystem vs risk / reward. Jungle ( amen era) was then forced into 2nd room / 2nd stages and drum and bass (mainstream sound) took over main rooms / main stages.

Things are bigger, theres more money to made, the audiences are younger, the agencies charge more,djs ask for more, etc etc.

agree wholeheartedly, which is why I'm pleading constantly for more risks to be taken. But it's hard to find a balance. I mean, who will budge? You can't expect an artists to play for free (I've done it plenty of times, but for me it's all about the fun and I'm not signed to say Hessle Audio or something).

Second rooms are an option, but you wouldn't believe the shitstorm they stir up here. Few weeks ago Untitled! did an upstairs room with the Numbers label night, the blatantly uneducated masses did nothing but complain about "the amount of techno being spun at a dubstep event"

it's such a delicate balance, it are exciting but difficult times.

I seriously just read maybe 10 pages of this whole thread and it was really interesting and I totally get where everyone is coming from, pretty sure. And personally I identify and agree with the underground-old-school-dubheads more. But that's not going to be my point here.

I guess my point is going to be it's astonishing that you are all discussing this so much.... over 100 pages??????

For a group of people who like to flaunt their love for tunes and promoting the little guys at the same time, that's sure A LOT OF CONCENTRATION on a trivial topic that only provides anti-support for basically the entire genre.....

I know I'm new to this forum (well, I've lurked for a good long time over years) but it'd be cool if this wasn't that big of a deal.

If Skrillex never got popular, this wouldn't matter. His popularity does NOT warrant all this debate/side taking/etc. It's just silly and I honestly don't see how any of these posts are even really relevant to the music at all......Frankly it just all kind of hits me as elitist bullshit. Even Skrillex himself and the other producers that you are all rolling eyes at aren't making that bad of a name for themselves. I mean jeez.
