Slice it, toast one side of the bread, then melt on the other side. Add a liberal sprinkling of ground pepper and a touch of cayenne.

We're not allowed a toaster or a microwave in the office. So annoying, just fridge and kettle. I'm thinking about putting some of the cheese onto the bread and holding it over a cup of boiling water so the steam softens it up a bit. Might work.
