Haha, you're just playing. You know it. You're not selling the rhodes. Also bruther, I know you are about to embark on a career that should fill racks with modular gear in short time. Hang tight on that.

You do have a dark energy, yeah?

I recently sold my sub, apc 40, dope ass boss digital delay, art tube compressor, minibrute (which I really liked)... and I'm really really kicking myself. Don't do it man. And if you do get close to selling it. Drive it down here, and I'll keep it for you until your head clears.

I've also never used an RNC or the RNLA but from what I've learned about them, I think they CANNOT be beat. You can do individual sounds or, groups. Like if you used those volca's for bass, drums and synth, an rnc for each, with an rnla after them all, I'm betting you could get a f'ing pretty heavy sound. At the price Fragments is picking them up... shit man, a hundred bucks a pop.

Yeah the 303 is durty. But you are talking dinosaur technology, yes, I'd like one. But it is always about sample transfer. Always. I've got an old asr-x pro that is now in pieces after an aborted pad restoration attempt. But that thing had incredible thick sound. I'm a midrange heavy kind of guy and that box was heavy, but fucking hell, scsi file transfers. I'm just not down. Smart media 65mb cards... technology price/value curve is a u. Price is high at introduction, mass production price drops, becomes obsolete, price rises again - often beyond initial prices... Smart Media cards are at that point of absurdity. And one of the problems with smart media, is they are finicky. Some brands work, some don't, different brands at different capacities do and do not work. It is a mess. I've got an mc909 that I really don't use because I've never gotten around to picking up a smart media card.

Now, an old durty machine like that is useful though, an sp 303, a zoom sample track 224, but as a second tier, kind of a specialty item.

And DO NOT GET IT TWISTED: the 404sx is DUUUUURRRTTY as fuck. Yes you can load a perfectly clean 16 bit, 44.1 file on there and play it back and will play back clean... but once you start working in the machine, applying fx and resampling... you are in fucking DDUUUUURRT city. I can't hold down a key long enough for how durty the thing gets. Like imagine a kick hat and snare over some string samples... the kick and snare just smeared, no transient at all left, nothing, just solid mush :) it is fucking awesome. But it is so durty, I often have to bring that shit back into the comp and recreate the actual drum lines, and then kind of parallel/side chain the drums back into the beats. Do not be affeared that the good child of the bunch is too clean. He is a duuurrty fucker. Did I say duuurrty enough?

And it can be used to trigger clean shit, in fact, it's memory is quite large, so you could do a full on dj set out of the box.

Check these forums: http://sp-forums.com/ good people over there. And if you dig a bit, you will find very dope beats.

Excuse my rabid post, but the 404sx is just so dope.
Yea. I messed around with SmartMedia on my ESX. Thankfully I didn't get burned by the finickyness. To be perfectly honest it was partially the price attracting me to the 303s. I think I needed someone to kick me in the ass and remind me that maybe, maybe...just maybe going with current file transfer technology is better.

I'm glad you are excited about the 404sx, if I'm going to drop that kinda cash. You ever used an ESX? How would you compare them? Besides the obvious Groovebox versus MPC style sampler. I had one and loooooved it. So if I'm spending around the same I guess I could think about that too.

re: FMR RNLA...they usually cost more I'd reckon 175USD would be a deal. More grit/character than the RNC. Not sure about the minute differences our why the cost almost twice as much.

Mine has to be a b-e-a-utiful pair of Adam A77X and some monitor stands.

I've also got major GAS for a small Analogue synth (Sub Phatty/MiniBrute) and Komplete 9.

Have a look at the Bass Station II if you are looking at analog monosynths.

I have half considered selling it, but not for more gear but just to get by. I'm kind of between jobs and schools right now and trying to figure out what is the next step. I shouldn't even be thinking about modulars, but you have to have a dream yeah? I do not have a Dark Energy; I wish though, those look nice. Pair that up with a mini rack...

Am in tears. I just lost an auction on some shadey ass shit. 55 minutes left to go on this item, it had very little interest, I was highest bidder. I'm exploring techno on maschine, so I set my iphone timer to 5 minutes before the auction ends. I go about my technoing, alarm goes off, I check the auction, 14 minutes left and counting. I'm like, whoa, I really fucked up my math on that one, so I set the time again for 10 minutes giving me 4 minutes to sit on it. Alarm goes off, sorry you didn't win the auction, it goes for 7 dollars over my bid... fucker just stole this thing from me. Am in tears. Shit was nice. It was an essentially brand new marantz pmd 720. Its a 4 track recorder but its really an 8 track mixer that comes down into 4 cassette tracks. This is a really good sounding 4 track, 19 years old and nearly brand new... FUCK FUCK FUCK

F5 and then meditate for the remaining minutes. Your patience and concentration will fend off the prying interest of other bidders.

Also if you're gonna leave it unattended put in your max bid. Your actual max where you wouldn't feel stupid if someone outbid you by 5 bucks.

This lesson will serve as a foundation for your future success as an online consumerism guru.

argh i cant tell you how badly i want one, IF i had one id never ever let it go, a good one is hard to come by for an even close to affordable price.

i have to use plugins to emulate rhodes keys and i just WISH i had a real one. :(

What is the best Rhodes emulation out there?

--

Hard to hold on to a Rhodes when you're living in your car, and the trunk won't close with the Rhodes in there.

What if I told you that I got that thing for $200? I was playing in a jazz trio with this guitarist who was moving down to LA and couldn't take it with him. He gave it to me for cheap.

As far as emulations, for VST's there is Electric in Ableton Live Suite and Lounge Lizard which are made by the same people. I've had better results using the Keyboards of the 60's and 70's card in a Roland JV-1080 and also just straight up sampling Rhodes chords off of a Jazz, Funk or R&B record.

Yesseriy.

I got a lite version of that lounge lizard that came with some hardware or software I bought, can't recall. It was 'aight, but never really inspired me the way a simple actual dreamy Rhodes chord can.

Thoughts on bleep labs? I've just been on a window shopping kick. I realize they are pretty limited on their own but I'm typically one piece of hardware isn't going to do it all....Thinking of ordering a bit blob Jr on payday next week. Been interested in recording a-rythmic ambience and drones to cassette for live modulation and re-recording while jamming w machine live..

Lemme check the register in my gear database for bleep labs...

Oh yeah, here it is: WANT

haha, that is the depth of it. Have been watching them from afar. I have the capacity to make a lot of money if I participate in the babylon system, and I will tell you, it is audio gear more than anything else that tempts me into participation.
