This whole thing pisses me off, do you know how big the Turkish army is? This isn't a Western problem to deal with when there are such powerful people in Syria's vicinity, although trying to stop the killing is obviously the moral thing to do, why is it the Wests job to do something about it. No doubt any (more?) Western intervention will just spawn more Western hating Islamists who wanna blow shit up

^ There are just under 200 members of the UN, yet as you said, its always the USA or UK trying to fix everything.

Just within the last few hour the latest news on syria is that they apparently have agreed on handing over/control of their chemical weapon.

It's usually the World Police that love a good war, but the UK's government love to play the lapdog also. Like someone else has already said, how is it our problem and why now after two years of conflict?? Neither the UK or US can take the moral high ground against assad, we're just as bad. If not worse imo.

They think they're better off without them, it seems. Can't be used without intervention becoming more likely.

Pipeline politics. Pure and simple. Competing business speculation being backed by sovereign national entities instead of the other way 'round. The nations' armies in the employ of sharks in suits.

Nothing new.

I'm getting past the point of :u: , past some of the resignation. I just wish something big would come and fuck it all up to put things in proper perspective for all parties concerned. A meteor, an epidemic, a radically destabilizing technological innovation - anything. The apple cart is not only sunk in the mud, it has a goddamned cement foundation with staked tethers at this point.

I'm paraphrasing of coarse. Does anybody else hear the bull shit that's coming out of his mouth?

He's saying that it will be a focused attack on Asad that will deter his use of chemical weapons. When senate brought up the fact that a pin point attack won't do much, he replied America never makes a pin point attack? :o More paraphrasing, but what? He contradicted himself at least three times during his speech.

well it's not like they're going to air strike residential neighborhoods. it would be on key government buildings and warehouses that store the weapons and other assets of assad's regime. not saying I'm for it, I'm just saying we wouldn't be senselessly killing civilians.

Yes, assad did use chemical weapons. He even admitted it.
JizzMan wrote:Also, retaliation should be fun to watch
Retaliation? This is a ragtag army we're talking about. They pose zero threat to any country besides their own. Even Isreal's military is 1000s of times stronger than Assad. They are confident they can defend themselves from him. Assad knows this, and I highly doubt, now that the world spotlight is on him, he's going to do anything more to put his power in danger. He wants to continue being the dictator, and retaliation would risk that.

u gna source that? pretty sure hes straight up denied it the whole time

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-08-2 ... syrian-war

what someone said on russian/syrian agreement to get rid of assads chemical weapon stockpile (having a stockpile is not admitting USING them) :::::
"I have doubts that this move will appease the Saudis and Qataris who are bankrolling this 'civil war.' Qatar wants Assad gone and someone who will approve a natural gas pipeline through Syria; Saudi Arabia wants Assad gone and someone who is more friendly towards Islamic fundamentalism in power and will not put the Qatari pipeline in.
The Saudis, who control about 25% of the world's fossil fuel reserves, are using their connections/control of the U.S. military to do their bidding (see this: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-08-2 ... syrian-war).
Then there are the hegemonic tendencies of the United States that has planned regime change in numerous non-compliant, Middle Eastern and North African nations for years. Retired General Wesley Clark confirmed this stating that the plan was to take out seven countries over a multi-year stretch, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya.
The machinations of the various players is complex and not even close to being clear-cut as the politicians and their corporate, mainstream media puppets portray. "
