come on sd5, it was ok, better compared to how shit superhero films and specially how incredibly bullshit alan moore adaptations are but it lost most of the interesting monologues and metaphysic discussions of the comic and pulls on lot of pointless action

It was better than shit like iron man 2/3 or transformers but I honestly didn't think anyone particularly rated it

aesthetically, drive was brilliant.

but, the charactyers are a tad unrealistic. goslin is just a thought boner for men who see some of his qualities in themselves.

unlike the turin horse which is bleak and gloomy but captures a more realsitic imagining of the human condition with its lulls in speech, as used in drive to nowhere near the same effect.

You'd think drive was a masterpiece of the age the way people on here talk about it

I don't think that was the point of the character. It was supposed to be the typical American hero, one that's righteous but violent and with a questionable past. Also a call back to the Man With No Name style of character.

Drives naturally gunna get people who love it and people who hate it/don't get it/don't appreciate it in the same way others do because of its simplicity, there isn't a whole lot to it. Its a good example of less is more imo. My mum didn't like Goslings character cause he didn't say much and was just really reserved throughout the whole film, I tried explaining thats why his character was so good but it just went over her head.

I guess you could use similar arguments against films like Slacker/Clerks ect. They're essentially plotless, some people will think they're brilliant and others will take it at face value.. a plotless, very forgettable film where nothing happens.

Personal taste innit.

it's because he is an anti hero and has blond hair and it kind of looks like blade runner

But mainly because Robert Redfords bag would be down by his knees by now

I liked goslings character cus he had this childlike sense about him to, and he finally got to redeem himself by saving that mum and her kid (and be "a real hero"). So even though he was violent and shit, you could sympathize. And the score obviously adds to that, that synth pop music sounds inherently a bit naive and euphoric in the best way, you know. So it was like he was trying to reach for that feeling even though he was involved in this horrible violent plot.

It's funny though, my mate thought the driver was autistic or something, and found the interactions between him and the woman really awkward. But to me it was more idyllic and sincere. I found it refreshing that it managed to pull off that vibe in a film which is pretty dark too.
