I wish this were the case, but I've seen quite a few people (not on here obviously) use the term seriously. I think enough people are saying "it's not dubstep it's brostep" that people are starting to believe it.

the minority? ????? its been written about by sites as big as
mtv..

the guardian

its no way some forum based term at all anymore. the phrase itself was used to describe that part of the sound as mosh pit music for teenage guys. you can ask kozee about this.
it started out on this forum very casually a few years ago as a offhand comment in a thread, and grew from there, and then got driven further by the media/agents/pr publicists, etc. i think anyone thats campaigning against something as subjective as a subgenre name is totally wasting their time. no one's gatekeeping the name brostep, nor does dubstep need protection or defending. this music is way too exposed and mainstream to bother with redefinitions. the only thing that matters now more than ever is letting people know about the long history, and the music as it developed during its history. let others know that it didn't start at the grammy awards.
don't waste your time worrying about who thinks this is that, or that is this.

Brostep is hardly even a derogatory term anymore. It's basically just a term of convenience used to easily lump together that sound. When you say brostep, everyone knows what you're talking about, so it's a very useful and effective word

If there's any term we should be campaigning against it's "post-dubstep".

you need to look at the date... this was all from 2010, when no one really knew who he was. haha. I can't believe all the hate he got, even back then! But now look at him!
