So I've been following this thread for a while and there's all kinds of great tips I've picked up. I think I've managed to make some half-decent growls but now I'm having writers block actually making a tune to use them in. What do you guys think?

Wobble Growls: This is an instrument rack with two Operators (with modulated Reese(ish) waves) with varying effects (1st is Chorus & Erosion the 2nd uses Kombinat & Redux) and then another Instrument Rack that has two Sines that are modulated to create a "Roooorgh" ish sound. The wobble is an auto-filter LFO'd and side-chained to the drums. There's also a WOW filter in there between the Instrument Racks and the auto-filter:

The other is a growl / robo hybrid made almost completely using built-in Ableton effects (It uses the free UpStereo from QuikQwak as a stereo spreader). Still a complete work in progress but takes a bit of writing up:

Both really need some work on both the melody and composition, but hopefully I'll get some feedback on the growl sounds?

Apologies if they are a bit rough ...

Been messing around lately with resampling and one of my clips sounds like it would be pretty gnarly growl if i resampled it more. It called Resample 5 and shows up at 0:20. When i get the chance ill send out a final preview of growl bass with that sample :6: Really proud of how my reeses are sounding so i think its about time i go back no making some growls. ;-)

I'd love to know how you got the vowel movement on resample 5

So I used Fm8 in this growl.

Here is my order of tools used.

Fm8 → Bounce Audio → 'Drop Audio' Harmor → Bounce Audio → Drop Audio in Playlist and Assign to Fx slot/bus ↓

Hope this helps some of you!

I won't be home for another 2 weeks, so can't really say anything about it until then. It's made in a way that with a few tweaks on the fx chain, it'll sound more like the standard growls people make :)

I was messing about the other day and I came up with this, I'll go into it a little but I'm not going to list all the specific parameters, it's about experimenting, let me know if you're interested :)

I have a new Growl strictly made in massive and I think I'm going to change a few things to it and give it away!

You're the man.
Tried the hook tecnique today, took a kick and looped it really fast, distorted, eq'd, modulated, etc.
Got something similar to that Terror Squad growl, really Dry sounding, but nothing skrillexy.

How the fuck do you create the high end? Like the Crude wavetable, how was that shit made?
BSSHIIII. How?

Well I have a new way of growls each time I do them but if you're strictly talking about the Kickdrum growl?
I think that would take more work there in processing it than simply using a vst of some sort.. I have been testing all types of vsts for wavetable differences and they have similarities but some of them are exactly alike. the reason I have been comparing them is because their filters are very different.. the recent one i have been using is V-Station. Its filtering system is supeeeerr clean and it creates the perfect WUB in my opinion.

So that being said...

I start off thinking like this.. Think of a Saw Wave turned all the way down in pitch... what sound will you hear? *tick-tick-tick* sound right? Well base your sound off that initial sound but you don't have to use a Saw Wave... you can find other wave tables that give off that similar sound.

Now to answer your question, to create the high end is fairly easy... just distort the high end with a multi-band distortion vst... whatever you use. I use Ohmicide and OTT. Make sure you equalize it after you distort it though. Hope this helps! :W:

Ha thanks, and actually both groels are massive based, the first squelchy one is basically just massive with some compression saturation, and the more otterish dry groel is a very rough simple massive patch with a monster fx chain. :corndance:
