Spinning top is irrelevant. He says never show your totem to anyone else...

It's his wedding ring, can't remember if he's wearing it at the end but it's on/off show at all key points.

nowaysj wrote:Inception was pretty good mindless entertainment. So boyish, car chases, machine guns, explosions. Half of the film looked like call of duty. Sub Base anyone? (Honestly, I would have rather been playing call of duty than watching this movie, but at least I could watch this w/ my wife).

Di Caprio, I'm sorry, is just atrocious. There are some 'actors' that are bad actors, but are still interesting to watch attempting to act, namely Tom Cruise, but Di Caprio, god, it is aweful. Should just be holding the script, reading the lines directly.

Was a fun, light hearted movie filled with a very poor lead actor, a shallow supporting cast (no fault of the actors, but not a lot of time to develop character when you must storm the sub base with sniper rifles and what not), intensely absurd pretexts to hold the plot together. Ah whatever, this film is better than most Hollywood films, but that is saying absolutely nothing.
100% agree with you, man. Both di caprio and levitt barely acted in this movie, it was almost painful at times (Hardy's performance was the best, IMO). So much time was spent just explaining all these rules behind the concept of it, which is really just what this "movie" is. They're selling some hyped-up, drawn out, fantasy concept that people just eat up because it comes off as "smart" and "edgy", when really it's just a gimmick incorporated into a very mediocre movie.

The whole was a big Deus Ex Machina. Every step in the plot was just another brand new facet of this whole dream world that just seemed contrived so they can film (bad) action sequences in different settings.

And whatever thunder di caprio had is now just dead (to me)... I doubt he will ever top The Departed.
Mostly agree. Acting wasn't that bad but I thought the script was pretty mediocre. I was totally psyched seing the film but after watching it I wasn't overly impressed. Nice images but the story and plot was SO hyped and overrated. I mean on IMDB it got a really good ranking, something round the 9.0 mark. Maybe I'm biased because I've watched the South Park episode first. And it was way too long for what it had to express. The action scenes were boring and not really necessary, especially the shooting in the mountains.

Was really impressed by Shutter Island though, well thought through script and mostly nice acting.

his ring isnt his totem, his guilt is.

Man and his Symbols is the one to read if you want to understand Jung.

Would that even make any sense considering what a totem is supposed to be?

He goes into their hotel room. Where is she? In a room accross the street. Dreamworld. She breaks free. He stays in dream. Whole film is about his Dad trying to get him to wake up.

Think people need to realise their intense speculation isn't fact. It's open to interpretation, like many good films. There is no right answer, especially when you're getting into psychological realms.
