Comfi wrote:Not a question, but something I've just figured out.

In FL studio, to get into the piano roll of a VST I always right click -> piano roll. I found out you can just double click the blue area to the right of the instrument (where the step sequencer is).

As always, sorry for the shit explanation.
Or Just press F7 :?

Back with another stupid FL Studio question.

When I drag a sample from my browser into my playlist, the browsers scrolls all the way up to the top.

Sometimes it remains there which is what I like. How do I get it to stay put and not scroll back up?

Thanks.

Dan.

So ive purchased Vengence Dirty Electro 1 , just looking to use a few kicks snares and fx from the sample pack.

Im going through the folders and there seems to be no 'one-shot' kicks snares etc ?

I didnt want to use pre made loops in my music I just wanted a nice selection of kicks snares and sound effects to play with.

Is this normal? and if so I suppose the idea is to cut them up using a WAV slicer to single out the one-shot noises from the loops?

Thanks :)

I don't have the pack, but from the site description here, there should be one shots. If you can't find a folder of them, maybe just do a search through the pack's folders for "kick" (you can do this in Windows or OS X, just might have to tinker with the search parameters), see if anything turns up. Or look at the contents and organize them by file size; a one hit is going to be much smaller than a loop.

Otherwise yeah, slice loops.

thanks for that ransom, I only really wanted a couple of extra drums to use lol, does slicing the loops work well if it came to it?

Yeah it does. Whole genres have been made based on break chopping. Get urself a decent slicer though, a lot easier than trying to fiddle about with audacity or whatever.

Yep, do it all the time. Just might take some patience on EQ work if anything is overlapping the sample you want but all in all it's good.

@ransom I currently use EasyAudioCutter , what do you use if any?

@jaimlee Yeh ive got to notice the importance of EQing latley, I get the gist of it but need to get learning, waiting on dubstep production bible 3.0 lol :D

Recycle 2.1 for chopping breaks, but I can manually cut out drums in Logic's editor, or any other editor (Audacity, Peak, etc.).

jaimelee's note about EQ'ing is good, and maybe check where you are making the slice at, try to do it at a zero point. You might need to fade out the audio a little too, but once you do it a bunch you just get a feel for how to treat.

Heres a stupid question for yall;)

Im stuck after making fairly nice bass sounds...i dunno how to actually use them in a song or turn them into nice audio loops.

In most dubstep songs does the bass hit the same notes throughout the song? aka c2 c2 c2 c4
is it the same bass just in slightly different forms aka resampling, changing the effects, lfo or whatnot?

What i like to do is use one long note and just automate and pitch shift it

Slicex
It is a very powerful slicer. good for slicing beats and sampling from songs

ehbrums1 wrote:What i like to do is use one long note and just automate and pitch shift it
On that note ehbrums, (a question for everyone) is automation basically the best way to change the sound in your bassline, by adding lfo, pitch, volume automation etc?

There are different ways to do that, automation being one. You can resample variations, You can make additional instances of the instrument, but each have different parameters (e.g. version #1 has a 1/4 LFO, version #2 is identical except a 1/8 LFO, etc.).

My best might not necessarily be your best. That make sense?

Here's one. How do you write slide notes in FL10 with synths that aren't inc w/FL? ie. massive, razor

theres glide settings in every synth

read ur synths manual and focus on the portamento or glide part
