A couple? No mate. Outside of people from the music industry, I know 1 person that refuses to illegally download.AllNightDayDream wrote:garethom wrote: Conversely, where do you base your assumption that a significant amount of people download illegally, and then delete it and buy a legit version?garethom wrote:I don't have the time, nor would I want to spend the time trawling through the internet for reports and studies
Look, you yourself offer elasticity on the price of your music so you understand the fundamental point. But because a couple of guys you know don't pay for music (by your own measure) means nothing.
Where's your report for this dude?AllNightDayDream wrote:just from being on this site I know you guys have a thing against outsiders and people with different views or tastes.
Again, that's a few people to know, that says nothing for the big picture. You're leaving out a lot of things as well. Every time I've been mugged it was by a black guy. So are all black guys criminals now?garethom wrote: A couple? No mate. Outside of people from the music industry, I know 1 person that refuses to illegally download.
I don't understand how you can "force" anyone into something on a forum. But if you think people here don't get into a fuss over what some people like, I don't know what to tell you. double digit threads have been made on that shit every week or so for years now.garethom wrote: A lot of people on here don't give a shit what tastes people have as long they aren't forced on people.
ahh fair doos, you mates with dopelabs and that?fractal wrote:wearecorsairs wrote: you own a record store fractal? in london?
no, i live in Seattle, and frequent the shops (live in them....)

Not literally force dude, but when people try and argue perceived objective merits of one type of music over another whether it be brostep over traditional dubstep or vice versa.AllNightDayDream wrote:I don't understand how you can "force" anyone into something on a forum. The only people I ever see using link cards and food stamps at the grocery store are black people. Must mean most people on welfare are black, right?garethom wrote:AllNightDayDream wrote:Again, that's a few people to know, that says nothing for the big picture. FUUUUUUUUCKING HELL MAN. Do all of your studies and reports that you bring up survey EVERYONE in the entire world? No. At some point you see that an amount of people are doing something and that might be the case everywhere.
Because having no appreciation for facts and instead relying on your perception of your experiences is ignorant and fuels stereotypes and hate.brasco wrote:why do all your examples relate to black people? bizarre
You paint anyone who downloads music with a large brush, calling their attitudes "disgusting" and saying they all just take and steal and give nothing. Just look at all the hateful generalizations made in this thread. This has nothing to do with whether you download music, but that you don't have an open ear to the facts.fractal wrote:so now we are fueling hate and perpetuating stereotypes because we don't download music illegally
i've given my opinion. stealing music is obvi something andd is extremely passionate about so why waste time expressing our views, not based on cold reports, but based on personal experiences within the dubstep community. a community that was, at one time, very small - and in some ways it still is; i don't know of many other music communities where the artists have such close ties with their fans... i will continue to support the music and my community in my way and you feel free to do you. just remember that one report doesn't make a thing a fact for the entire world. it would take much research and many reports, spread out across both time and locations, to make something a conclusive fact. people read a few "facts" off the internet and get very excited about their new "truth" imo time will tell.
anyways, I'm out and as this convo is not about dubstep, but rather music as a whole, i'm taking it to off topic. sorry ninjas

I'm vegetarian, so in a choice between the two, I take cheese.Cornbreadddd wrote:So do you guys like pepperoni on your pizza, or just cheese? I prefer pepperoni myself.
no, i said "some" of the attitudes were disgusting... again, you misread and misinterpretAllNightDayDream wrote:You paint anyone who downloads music with a large brush, calling their attitudes "disgusting" and saying they all just take and steal and give nothing. There are plenty reports. I would post them but your side doesn't care for any evidence contradicting your emotionally shallow points. File-sharing has negligible negative effect on the market as a whole, but redistribution is definitely happening. People like the budding producers that came from this forum have all gained from it, and the future ones will too. But there's no appreciation for real knowledge or open-mindedness on this forum, so the stereotypes and hate continue. Because of my views however rationally I present them, I'm a conniving "thief" who's probably lame to be around, and I'm unwelcome at the record shops. This is how your "community" treats everyone in many topics that don't conform to one viewpoint, even to people who simply have different tastes.
