Gotta mention this one again. Such a good album :U:
Refreshing to hear a proper dnb album, which is more and more of a rarity imo.

I suppose Sebenza and Mala in Cuba warrant some mention even though I personally think they aren't all that great. Sebenza is a bit of a grower but at the halfway point, it jsut falls away into mediocrity. Mala in Cuba is a standard dubstep CD in a year of standard dubstep cd's.

gotta agree.
like you said, sebenza is a bit of a grower. personally i didn't like at all when i listened to it the first time. it would have been good to get an instrumental version.
and mala in cuba is just overhyped imo. expected much more.
tbh the only dubstep album i'm looking forward to this year is the dusk & blackdown one.

Even that will probably be more towards garage, I'd imagine. To be honest, I don't think dubstep works that well in album format, I can only really think of the Clubroot releases that are AMAZING dubstep albums, that actually function as such.

Another recommendation: J A B U/Killing Sound - Live At The Tape-Echo Studio/Real Love

Not sure if you can call this an album, just a standard double sided cassette, clocks in around 35-40 minutes though. Quite frankly, it's actually amazing. Previews here: http://no-corner.info/

I would also like to bring to everyone's attention a new digital re-issue.

Justin Broadrick (godflesh, Jesu, Techno Animal...) has recently made available one of his best mini-albums (it really is more of an EP) created under his ambian/power electronics moniker FINAL. It's from the previously vinyl only (and sold out) 'My Body is a Dying Machine' LP-EP.

Previews here : http://final1.bandcamp.com/album/my-bod ... ng-machine <= 5$ is a bargain for any format.

hmmm didn't get into them that much, then again probably only listened to them twice. the f and helixir albums on 7even are great albums as well. and they don't feel like "a collection of tunes" or some "experimental sonic journey" (aka at least 3 different genres and a shitload of ambient interludes).

Gareth Williams & Mary Currie - Flaming Tunes

It was originally released on cassette in 1985 then on cd in 2009 but it's been pressed to vinyl for the first time this year. Incredible album.

I hate Swans. Their music generally makes me depressed as fuck (and I mean by mood, not by quality). Though some of the early stuff is really visceral music. Great if you need to vent.

that's why i love them tbh. though they are one of those quintessential chinstroker bands. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Frog Pocket - Frog and the Volcano [Mouthmoth] - It's simply glorious, i can't really describe it though... he's had multiple releases on Planet-mu and Benbecula so there's a hint. Let's just call it "other".

This one's not technically an album, rather a mixtape, but trust me its worth listening to.

Basically its a Cape Town band beating Vampire Weekend et al at their own game. Shangaan, Kwela and the rest of the ZA continuum all feature as well as lots of well chosen international influences, all sown together rather well to make some of the most enjoyable "pop" (by pop I mean melodic music that you can groove along to) I've heard this year.

I give you John Wizards. When Pitchfork, Dummy, FACT and the rest of them are drooling over this next year remember where you heard it first.
Soundcloud

I've also been listening to the David Byrne and St. Vincent album which is nice but definitely a grower.

Return II Space is sick, but 6 tracks? As much as they call it an album, that's an EP!

With Skream! I really like, like 3 tracks, and the rest just don't bother me.
