hopefully it starts doin stuff by about day 3/4. harsh to judge it on first day i suppose... bit of a mistake to put us in by Mccullum though
also yeah i feel for you shum, it always feels much more enjoyable watching your team bat. I haven't seen England bat all day at headingley for years!

there were some issues with footholds earlier on in the day, otherwise it's got good consistent bounce and little sideways movement. a solid batting surface.

Big up for the pitch report shum! Watching Compton and Trott must have felt a little slow though? Hopefully the middle order will pick up the pacea little.
I wish England would give Tredwell a run in the test side, I think he's earned it! Hard to pick between him and Monty though I guess...

ah, beautiful rain!
with the bonus that our boys, confined indoors, have no excuse to not do their homework

I hope they've been noting down all their sleep and recording daily skinfolds.

the English bowling unit have gone up a gear from Dunedin, they came out of the sheds and put the stranglehold on our batsmen right from the first ball. Kane Williamson looks to be in good touch so hopefully him and Brownlee can hang about for a bit tomorrow and do some damage.

It would be nice if NZ could post a competitive target, I would really like to see a close test match!!

Well we posted what I thought was a competitive first innings of 400+
then India were going for 300 for none at stumps...
I can't recall a test team getting that much for no fall of wickets.
We've found some bowlers who can bat, pity they can't bowl!

did you see dhawan's knock? jeez. admittedly the aussie attack looks poor and the pitches are less responsive than a necrophiliacs dream date but he looked awesome. 33 fours, a test century from 85 balls. wow.

good for swing... bad for the small field.
wonder if that drop-in pitch will last 5 days anyway?

443 all out. the English can breathe a slight sigh of relief i suppose, it could have been much worse for them.
