Are you asking for track submissions, or just plugging the show?too-easy wrote:Hi everyone,

Re: Beat Music Makers
Just saw this thread for the first time and I'm all about it. Posting to keep up with it.
Re: Beat Music Makers
Gotta post some tracks as an initiation.
Re: Beat Music Makers
For any ableton users who might be interested in the actual video part, he's controlling the video clips in ableton and launching them with the samples. He has a video on how he does it on his channel.
Re: Beat Music Makers
Yay
idk if you checked out the vid I posted, but that dude has a style all his own. Well maybe not entirely all his own, but he definitely has a voice. Also, I'm kind of getting tired of working in the box and am seriously considering an sp404sx. I know samiyam uses one, and I know it's a good machine, but if any of you guys are using one you should totally convince me to buy one.
Re: Beat Music Makers
I have one, great fun . would recommend.zosomagik wrote:Yayidk if you checked out the vid I posted, but that dude has a style all his own. Re: Beat Music Makers
Haven't we talked about the 404sx in this thread?
YES do it. It really is a magic box. Learn it, it isn't so hard, and then it flys. And listen, it has a fuck tun of limitation, sweat juicy limitations.
And Jizzy,
Still have to see if he can roll a blunt with his left hand, while keeping the kick and snare tight with his right.

Re: Beat Music Makers
Good thing I'm left handed. But I think I'm gonna pick one up, a friend of mine has one that he's been trying to get me to trade this guitar amp to him for awhile now. With my luck though he won't wanna do it now and I'm strapped for cash, but I'll stay hopeful. I think you mentioned the sp but I don't think anyone went in depth with it in this thread, I could be wrong though I've only read the first few and last pages.
Re: Beat Music Makers
I saw this coming.zosomagik wrote:Good thing I'm left handed.
Small nwj story. I was in Aruba, I think, to shoot some photo and video, and when we arrived on the island this taxi driver, who I'm not shitting you looked like Morgan Freeman (dude gets around apparently), insisted that we go with him. Like really insisted. I mean all the drivers insist, but this mf really insisted. Pulled Jedi mind tricks, like, "I'm the driver you want to go with."
As we're driving away some other people that arrived were being arrested for buying weed from a taxi driver. Well, we're a few blocks away, and the taxi driver is like, you smoke, we're like sure. Outside of town, this f'ing guy is now doing 40mph on some pretty dilapidated, narrow, windy roads in an old beat up van with four unmatched bald tires - he whips out the biggest paper I'd ever seen to that point, a bag of weed, and another bag of an almost black dried plant he called high leaf. This guy one handedly rolls the most perfectly formed, cartoon large cone I've ever seen. He lights it up and we all proceed to get lifted, doing 40 mph around that beautiful island. When we got to the shoot, I almost fell over when I got out of the van. I had to chill a bit. And at one point, I set up this shot on top of this stone wall, never forget, Morgan Freeman goes, "Don't let that high leaf throw you off that wall."
Words to live by Morgan.
Re: Beat Music Makers
I don't have many crazy stories
Re: Beat Music Makers
Dat island weed! No fucking gmo weed there, brub.
I asked Morgan repeatedly about the black plant, dude was not budging.
I was actually fairly apprehensive. I am naturally risk averse, and I'm like is Morgan going to take us all the way out here, knock us out with some secret island herb and steal our gear? My buddy the photographer, though, was a fledgling Taoist and was like, "go with the flow". Generally good advice, but same advice almost got us locked up in Nice, which would not have been nice.

Re: Beat Music Makers
haha yeah, I'm quite the introvert, so I stay away from foreign situations. But back on the sp, I see it has a midi input, so I'm curious as to whether that's pretty much strictly for syncing up gear or if I could use a pad controller to launch samples from the sp? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I have minimal hardware experience.
Re: Beat Music Makers
I have never used midi functionality with the sp. But yeah, it is a midi in, right? I believe it is so yes you can launch samples from the sp. Or sequence it with your comp. I've always just used it as an unquantized playable sampler and sometimes fx box.
Re: Beat Music Makers
Word, I'm trying to pick it up for arranging ideas and fucking around a bit. Also with it being able to run on batteries is sweet, making beats in the same place can be pretty uninspiring.
Re: Beat Music Makers
You can say that again. I spend a lot of time at my desk, and I just burn out. Like I still love making music, but just being there is like too much, I get squirrelly. I'm that way now, in a bad way. That is one of the major reasons I love the sp. Load it up with some samples, chill on the couch, maybe plugin the ipad, and just chill making beats, having fun. The 404 is a sloppy device. It glitches all the time. My glitches real bad with long samples. Shit doesn't loop right. If you are a control freak, this shit might give you a heart attack. But if you're a control freak, that might be a good thing. It is just the antithesis to controlled, clean, dynamic, wide, deep, transparent computer production. It is narrow, murky, slushy, shallow. Haha. I love it. It is the antidote.zosomagik wrote:Word, I'm trying to pick it up for arranging ideas and fucking around a bit. But, if you want to take those beats and have them exist in the real world... in the clean world... can be tough. Lately I've been starting tracks on the 404. Just to get the right drum vibe, and the right fucked up kind of sound, and then bringing that stuff over to the computer as audio. And then building from there. Not doing everything on the 404. Starting so I have enough texture and sort of pressure and then building in some depth and width.
