and how did you come to that conclusion? my comment was a response to what i quoted and nothing more, and yea i backed my argument with credentials so people dont think im making stuff up or tryin to waffle. Bottom line is theres alot of people who helped build this scene from the ground up - a universal effort not limited to a chosen few and if you read what i wrote carefully you will see im not dissing anyone or taking anything away from their efforts.

One of the best 'big boy' producers, as in those who have been around for years..

While yes, theres some newer people who have stepped up and genuinely make better tunes as in a musical and production sense ... Skream has it locked what people want to hear, from mellow stuff you can listen to on headphones to dancey 2step stuff to stuff what destroys the dance floor.. Genius is a little bit of a overstatement but deffo a pioneer and hes a few steps ahead of so many producers as he can not get a release out in months and then release a new skreamizm and people are still battering it when the next one is out....Just look at "Dark Side Of Life / Tearful Dreams" them two are still played on the regular a year and a bit after... Each to their own if you like him or not but at least respect him..

I've read this thread from the start and hadn't replied but.....

I think the genius & overrated thought process is kind of funny, just as I think the large amount of ego stroking that goes on here is funny via the 'don' comments. Obviously we all feel passionate about music, and we all have preferences for music styles, production techniques, etc but it's a little much. I myself have given accolades & shown respect to the folks I like, but damn it gets wild in here.

Remember that the producers are all people; Skream, Benga, Hatcha, etc are all people just like anyone else. They may have great musical gifts, and vision but it has to get really old dealing with all this. I kind of view these threads in the same way that I view the paparazzi & People magazine, it's all just a bunch of people from the outside looking in wanting more info & providing their interpretations of others. Judge the work, not the person.

All that said, I like Skream's tunes, and wish that I had the musical talent that he has.

an unbelievable amount of shit being spouted by some in this thread but this about sums it up for me

sure there's plenty of stuff i don't feel by him but with the wealth of tune's he's made that's hardly surprising, and there's some tunes by him that i absolutely love. whatever you want to say about skream he's always trying something different and it's up to you whether you like what he does, or not as the case may be

I recently said this forum was the Heat magazine of dubstep. I would like to retract that and say it's the halfway house between Closer and Daily Mail.

i would say uk music has been amazing for ages full of innovators....dubstep is a part of this and rather than look at who started dubstep we should be fucking proud as a nation of the incredible innovation that has taken place..

dubstep has many influences...no point looking at who started them surely?

I remember going down all the time (well up in smoke was the main reason for the trip) when I was like 13/14 buying grime with my mate and I never thought of it for what it is until I started following dubstep.

Skream is on a different level to so many other producers. An album, 5 SKREAMIZMS!!! Midnight request line, Watch the ride cd, first rinse cd!!! bare other 12" etc etc. What other producer is as prolific other than dmz or benga? And how old is he 23 or sumit! PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE PLEASE!? How can you deny a man that? Anyway thats not the point, this guy has expermented so much and really taken music fwd and dubstep to so many new ears, fine personal opinion is one thing, but you carnt mistake his influence on the scene and ability as a dj and producer. Do what you do and unless you have got something useful to say, get out of here.

How it happened, when it happened and who is responsible for it happening mean absolutely nothing in the scheme of things. I don't care who started it, but what I do care about is people taking credit for it.

At the moment when the world heard Dubstep, you become merely a player on a massive stage. You aren't a director, you are an actor and in most cases the audience. Anyone who would take credit for Dubstep doesn't deserve credit.

Real innovators realize that inventing doesn't imply ownership or being deserving of credit. Credit is given, not taken. Every documentary that we see about who created this, or how innovative it is, etc... just makes me nauseous. It's like we ignore the important people, which are the ones who made Skream and Benga and Hatcha what they are. And to be clear, I don't hate Skream or Benga or Hatcha for being placed on that throne. But to the extent you place yourself there, what respect I have goes out the window.

How's this: WHO CARES WHO CREATED DUBSTEP?

Even better... DUBSTEP: GENIUS or OVERRATED?
