Not sure spidering the midrange into the sidechain is neccessary, because the lower frequencies will trigger the compressor before the mids and highs.

Anyway, if you've compressed everything and things still sound messy, turn everything down in the program and turn your amp/speakers up.

Personally I don't compress all the mids and highs, only the lows (below 250Hz). But I do eq everything so there is more space for everything to sit next to each other in the mix.

PM me the track if you like and I'll give you some constructive feedback. :)

Just wanna start by saying this thread has been really useful to my noob ways, its helping me learn things much quicker. i swear all this terminology is like learning a new language lol. Big ups to all the useful posts.

Anyways my question is about hats. I can't seem to get the swinging or shuffle effect to them. Its highly annoying as it makes the beat sound shit and flat. How do i get my hats to do that?

Hey guys, I was trying not to post anything because this is probably a trivial question, but had no luck finding it through the search... anyways, my drums are made with one redrum and multiple patterns that I have copied to track with all the hits shown, and I have made multiple change ups and stuff...I also put reverb over it....... as you can imagine, it sounds very muddy. Id like to keep the reverb over everything else except the kicks. Is there a way to send just the hats/snares/etc to a reverb unit? or am I going to have to scrap the whole drum track and rebuild it more efficiently? Thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb question.
WIP - Feedback would be appreciated

^^ Press [tab] and route each of ReDrum's individual outputs to a mixer channel. Then use a send for your verb.

This was a humongous breakthru for me in reason (pressing tab). before that, I felt like my software was practically useless.

Going a bit further, what I like to do is use one of the 6 channel line mixers for each bus in my drum mix... one for kicks, one for snares, one for hats and cymbals, another maybe for extra percussion. Route all of their outputs to a channel on your main mixer. I use the sends on those buses for verbs so my snares can have a nice big plate on them and I often use a more subtle verb on the main mixer, into which I mix a bit of each bus to taste. RV7000's drum rooms or something... not a bad preset. Of course you can edit your verbs the way you like em. I also like to keep my kicks dry.

Sorry If i am explaining poorly. Let me kno If i can clarify.

Thanks for the info.. that makes sense. I'm going to have to hit up the front of this thread and re read the "Busses, Inserts & Sends in Reason Explained" tutorial. I'm glad to hear that I wont have to scrap my whole drum track. thanks again 2day

What i do is, I have my default track set up with a combinator.. Inside that combinator is a line 16:2 mixer, I have an instance of redrum right below it with each output going into a channel on the 16:2.. I found this is the best for me.. you get 4 sends.. and you're also easily able to throw an effect on individual hits!

Using the individual sends on the redrum is a great time saver. Say have a reverb and delay as your first two sends so you can easily apply it to any hit. Then you only need to route individuals if you want more advanced effects on particular drums.

Sounds like the thing to do, export with different rates and such. Quick question though do you think it would be a good Idea to export yor backing sub in the ame way and the layer in the nxt.. or mix sub and mid bass together and then sample out and throw in the sampler? I guess either way would work.

i personally would keep them separate.. that way you have control over volume/compression/eq/ect.. If you decide to do something different with kick.. or want a section w/o the sub.. or w/ sub w/o mid bass

Hi im new to the forum

anyway i was wondering what people use to make their wobble bass and how you do it.
i can get a wobble but they never seem to have much impact or they always seem empty and not very dirty.

Cheers

I do hope you arent trolling!! Theres a great deal of Reason wobble tuts on youtube, i sugest you get searching on there.

But in the mean time, try starting an effects chain under your synth. A unison unit helps to colour the sound nicely, like a chorus. Flange aswell and mess with a scream unit, maybe a little touch of reverb, not much, just to liven things up.

Once you have a wider more vibrant sound, you can then select your whole chain, synth included then duplicate it 2 or 3 times, that will certainly fatten things up loads. Then maybe give them all different filters and values, low, mid, high

That sounds like it would be easy to make. I had a fiddle but couldn't actually get it to actually sound like that. If you have a fiddle with the cut-off and res on this you might be able to get something simular. http://www.sendspace.com/file/5m308n
