I'm pretty sure there is in cubase, and logic, and positive in flstudio, you can make a cut and it will cut the whole chunk of audio the size of that cut, so you cut 4 bars at the beginning, and the whole audio file is chunked up automatically into 4 bar chunks. I'd imagine live has this ubiquitous functionality.

ctrl E makes the highlighted section cut off from the rest
do that in chunks, then select them all and turn on loop
or in session view, make a 4 bar loop from the intro, then duplicate it and slide the loop bar over
I find that using Ctrl+J does a better job, as using Ctrl+E will cut the track where the cursor is, but that will cut it into 2 tracks, so what you just cut, you could pull out the sides again and have the whole track again...
Where as if you select your 4-bar, then Ctrl+J that shit, it will be a 4 bar loop, nothing else. this saves cpu (not much) and alot of confusion.

OK so I am messsing around with a few loops (complete noob here) and when I get a decent bassline I don't know how to variate it whatsoever.....what feasible presets can I use to get a nice "varied" bass tone..... I don't know a thing about Abelton thats why Im asking but I'd like a nice changy bass rather the same old drum loop and the same old bass loop..........cos my tracks don't have variation atm!

select the portion you would like deleted and set that to the default position? (zero?) You cant delete it as the control has to be "somewhere" if you get me.

you can hold alt while clicking a point and whatever you move over gets deleted
or you can highlight the section and do ctrl alt x i believe, or right click to do it and that will tell you the short cut
if you add it to another automation lane and not the regular clip lane then it is just delete. but you have to click that + button to add it as a automation lane

Is there any way of spliting audio into right and left
if that makes sence

yea but this is one flaw
ableton is not good at these mundane functions sometimes. but heres the "work around": duplicate the track, drop a utility on each and select left on one and right on the other
the other option is to select a wave editor in the ableton options. now if you click "edit" on the clip the file will pop up in ,lets say, audacity with the same file name. and when you hit save, it saves to the same location. close audacity and the files back in ableton as if you were using a vst or something. VERY VERY handy. neglected this for a long time but its worth using

hell yeah, hurling's the man. always on point. you should do some more tutorials sometime bro, its always a pleasure hearing what knowledge you've got to drop.
too busy to browse the list of shortcuts for live at the moment....so is there a shortcut to transpose midi notes an octave up/down when working in the midi note editor?

ctrl or shft or alt up or down arrow something like that, or maybe a combination of the fore mentioned keys.

Anyone, ANYONE know how to record LFO rate changes in tracks? I'm making a bass sound and as I record it, fiddling around with the rates, but when I come to play it back it stays at whatever the LFO rate is then........if you get my drift....need help with this as I got a decent bass sound and need to get my wobble variation on. :d

yeah, there's a couple ways to do this.
dont know what synth you're using but i just tried it out with albino and it worked several ways. the first way is to create an audio track and route the midi from the wobble synth to this audio track. then arm the audio track and press record, while playing the midi clip of your wobble bass and messing with the sync rate (or just play along on yr midi controller while messing with the sync rate, if thats what you're using) and the sync'ed wobbles should appear in the new audio clip.
second way is to record the midi of yr wobble synth INTO the arrangement view FROM the session view using the global record button, while messing with the rate. this way you'll see a midi clip in the arrangement with the recorded automation for the rate, which of course is fully tweakable from here.
third, just draw in the automation in the arrangement view or in the clip envelope view.
hope this helps. cheers
p.s. -- i just read your post again and it sounds like this was what you have already been doing and if so, you should be seeing the results of the rate change. haha so if none of the above helps, im sorry but i have no idea why it isn't working
