looking to buy this baby

Any1 has experience with old bmw cars and can tell me if it's worth buying ? It's in near-mint state haven't called for a price yet but it should be less than 2000e.

That'd be considered a classic over here - have you got a photo of the one you're buying? If it's genuinely near-mint, then it's probably worth it - it's certainly not going to depreciate any more; unless you rag it around and drive it into the ground anyway, but I'm guessing if you're looking at a first-gen 3 Series, you're after more than a mode of transport from it.
Basically, yeah, *drive it first* and get it. But be prepared for it to feel like an
old car no matter how mint it is - things have changed a lot in the last 25 years*. If you're going to take care of it, buy it. If not, get a more modern rustbucket that'll probably have more mod-cons and won't make you feel guilty every time you hit a pot-hole.
*edit: fuck,
35 years. Every time I think back to the 80s my brain wants to think it's still only 2003.

Yeah I've pretty much only ever driven oldtimers and 70s-80s cars, family thing

My current car is a peugeot 205XR (old gasoline rally car with twin carburettor, sport suspension,...) like this one
The bmw looks exactly like the one in the picture except for the color, no rust on the lower body, mint interior. I have yet to take a look at the engine and transmission but it definitely looks like the current owner took very good care of it. I have solid knowledge in mechanics and cars so that won't be a problem either.
I think I like old cars more than new ones, they're more fun, way simpler (who needs 15 buttons on a steering wheel???) and most of them look better (to me anyway)

Couldn't tell you, I picked this one off google image and it looks the same as mine, that was just to give the idea. The gti models look like the others in the 205 series, except it has 126bhp and disk brakes on all 4 of the wheels.

I had an 84 MKII Golf until a year ago, what a riot that car was, similar colour to your 205 too. Is the 205 a manual choke?

Yeah, even with the manual choke good fucking luck starting it up in winter mornings, when at a red light I got to have my left foot on the clutch, right heel on the brakes and the tip of my right foot on the accelerator to keep some gas going in the engine otherwise it will just stall, even de-clutched

I meant did you have the GTI model...used to have a 205 as my first car, was like driving a go-kart
Was a 205, then a 106, then a 107 then a 206

You either have phenomenally good luck or never learn your lesson.

Yeah mine was a bit of a nightmare in the winter too. I used to sit at traffic lights at about 2-3000 rpm in neutral just to keep it the fucker running haha. Everyone thought I was some barry boy just wanting to race everyone. The Golf was good for about 35bhp haha

Haha it's a 1985 standard XR. Go-kart is exactly how I describe it to my friends... With some kind of timebomb acting as an engine

The 205GTI is just about the only Peugeot anyone should ever buy.
And even then, they should probably just get a R5 GTT or an XR2i.
I'd still love an R5 GTT actually... you can take the boy out of Weston-Super-Mare...

205 was a first car and came to me with 76k on the clock, need a new alternator whilst I had but that was about it and it got to ~110k before I got rid of it.
106 I rear ended a Merc E-Class on the M4 and wrote it off. Left a perfect Pug badge imprint on his bumper but otherwise didn't scratch the other car

. Insurance valuation was only £100 less than what I'd paid for it 18months previously IIRC.
107 was a lease deal, think I managed to burn the clutch out before I returned it, good going considering it was an automatic.
206 I had from ~25k until ~80k when I moved to Spain, tried to sell it to a dealer for a bit of cash but the repairs it would've needed (new gearbox/clutch etc) were more than the value of the car.
I fucking love Pugs. Even the smaller engine ones shift because there is no weight to them, sure they go wrong all over the place (clutch, gearbox, alternator) but the parts are cheap and plentiful so fuck it, not like they cost a lot to begin with

Funny how we are the same but different over here.
First car: 84 honda crx (actually built in 83) Thing got 34+ mpg in the early/mid eighties. My car now gets ~14mpg...
This was a legitimately fun car, with incredible power/weight ratio. Front wheel drive but I could drift this like yoshi on speed.

I have a focus ST but the guy that always parks next to me at work has an RS and the jealousy is getting stronger every day.
Don't think I could afford the insurance though..
