Or just not responding in general! Get this all the time, what makes it worse is I see these people responding to shit on FB or twitter etc about random shit, but cant be bothered to respond to an important email.

This. I always take the time to respond, doesn't matter if I'm studying/working whatever.

Same, if somebody has taken the time to ask you a question, then its just courtesy to respond. Fair play the odd one or two may slip through the net, but I know alot of people who do it on the regular. Its frustrating more than anything as you probably need their response in order to progress with something.

I have an hour a day blocked off in my calender for dedicated email responding time. Outlook synced with MS Communicator so people can't IM me whilst I'm doing it.

I could do with entire days blocked off my calendar to answer emails... I get a couple done and then the fucking phone rings! Constant fire fighting.

Yes...but that needs to be something that is setup with the Exchange server, I believe. My company doesn't have it enabled for security reasons, but I know one of our global manufacturing partners does as their AM always complains to me when I see him.

Yep, and depending on the size of the organisaton this is a decision that needs to be applied globally by the CIO.
