Funk - yes, the original hip-hop DJ's like Kool Herc used the breaks from the funk and soul records at the time, but the whole electro thing didnt really appear in hip-hop until Afrika Bambatta in the early 80's, and hip-hop almost had a decade under its belt by that stage.
And 70's hip-hop had nothing to do with electro, it was just DJ's spinning the breaks of the songs at the time with an emcee or group of emcee's going simple call and response and later party raps over them.
Grandmaster Caz, Busy Bee, Spoongie Gee and the Treacherous Three, Funky Four + One etc really just rapped over hardcore breaks. When the Sugar Hill records started they got all their artists to rap over a live funk band, which sounded totally different than the live shows of the late 70's.
Those live tapes are worth getting as there was no recorded material during that period.

Just when you think Hollywood couldnt get any worse after rehashing every crappy 80s movie with modern special effects...has there ever been a decent big screen bass-culture movie? Traffic is the only one I can think of.

In all seriousness out of everyone including the brosteppers the most commercially viable dubstep artists to make a film out of would be Skream and Benga as they've got enough appeal and go back far enough to allow a sort of history of dubstep plot to be followed while centring around their perspective.

Aiming a film about dub in its purest form at a generation who either download illegal tunes or stream them at low quality for free?
Cool!

Climax of the film is when he gets a permanent vacation from dsf. From there on out it becomes a tale of the recovery of a broken man
