A movie about Burial would be as exciting as waiting in line at the DMV.

its certainly not the worst. it has musical motif. to me the bro mentality is the whole mass-line approach to cramming as many filth noises as possible in between each thunderous kick and snare (since they are the only drums in the track anyway), and then mixing that down and calling it a track, when the shit really doesn't carry any musical ideas whatsoever

i'm thinking tearout too. but it sounds like a shitty attempt at being coki.
tbh its also less about this tune or that (although there are some singular shining examples of brostep tracks)
and more about context.. That knife party tune, IMO would go down great during one of the peaks of a dubstep set
But in the majority of sets during which it is spun, it probably won't stand out as climactic, filthy, heavy, or musical, because the DJ is playing b2b "filthy drops" all fucking night
because of that, NOTHING stands out, and the set is as boring as listening to grass grow

So I never fully understood - what's the difference between tearout and bro?

People who call themselves the "true dubheads" call bro shit tearout shit to make others think themselves or the artists aren't dumbing down and are just having a laff. Probably.

tbh there's nothing to understand, this is all bullshit semantics, just enjoy the music you do and sod what everyone else thinks.

imo

TEAROUT

--

BROSTEP

The defining characteristics whether I class something as either tear-out or brostep is brostep is just aggro most the way through. It has a lot of different things going on at once. Tear-out is toned down and will fit in with a good dubstep set.

Just my opinion ofcourse.
