try low passing. I was struggling to make a heavy bongo line fit with a reese and the rest of the drums, low passed it @ 2khz and layered with hi hats, problem solved.

its definitely an eq problem... but its b/c the break i used has like absolutely no highs

the hi hats sound like garbage & the snare sounds so strange

& im horrible at EQing

did you try layering it with a high passed crispy sounding break or the same break timestretched / pitched akai mpc / emu style?
