lostcosmonaut wrote:Looking for some feedback on my first dubstep track. I was in a weird mood during the holidays and decided to make a christmas themed wobbler, would have had it up in time for the 25th but Soundcloud and this forum hate me. Would love to hear what you guys think, especially with regards to the mixing/mastering cos that is still a total black art to me.
i agree with knell, most holiday themed dubstep tunes are cringeworthy and generally shit, but youve pulled it off very well. the grinch sample does sound a bit obvious but i dont think it really matters as its only heard once. im probably nit picking here but the synth that comes in with the bassline on the drop sounds too loud. still very good
Contrary to the name of the song it doesn't actually sample The Grinch, the bit in the middle is from the old black and white version of A Christmas Carol Good point on the synth. Cheers to everyone for the feedback!
let me know what you think, and i'll be so grateful that ill probably review every track you've ever posted here (haha)
i know it's not a soundcloud, but its just one more click... please help me out!
any feedback on any of the other tracks is welcome too, but i just posted "BangTac" so that's the one i'm most concerned with.
if you do review one, please let me know which one it is.. or just review if you're referencing "BangTac"
thanks guys, i know you wont let me down
(ya ya and 320s are avail. too...)
much love

everythings working now, check out "BangTac" and let me know what you think and ill treat you to extensive reviews, as always
thanks and much love
i like the variation of basslines throughout, not so hot on the arppegiated synth. high energy, definitely could get people dancing. overall pretty solid.
My first Dubstep tune.
I'm 18 and from New York by the way.
lol the vocals are a bit wtf but nice job for a first one, the drops were pretty on. if anything was repetitive but nice overall.

anything in particular you didnt like about the arp synth? or just the fact that it's an arp synth? haha
Pluses:
+Always a good idea to get the crowd moving with the intro to a song, its hard to stay still when that beat comes on
+Nice strong electro feel to it
+That bass synth is filthy
+thumpingly good bass drum
Advice:
-the fade out/in at 0:55 seems a little awkward to me, if i were dancing i would probably look around at that point
-if you mixed up the pattern of the synth that comes in at about 1:36 i can imagine it sounding INSANE
-plasma blasts are a little rinsed, in my book
-love the repetition of the main bass riff, really just looking for more on the high end
"I Gotta Feeling (Hectic RMX)"
Pluses:
+good idea, awesome song to remix
+nice work on the vocals
+the breakdown at 1:51 is pretty brilliant, definitely was not expecting that
+sweet delay on the breakdown
+the "ooh hoo" part at 3:00 is gold! almost instant trance
+popular song, would probably get most mainstream clubbers cheering when they recognize it
Advice:
-Intro almost sounds like CPU overload when it glitches out.. is that for time/sync reasons?
-breakdown could be a tad heavier, doesnt seem to drop like it should
-some parts really just sound like cd skipping, maybe use less beat repeat and more beat mangle?
overall very good electro work! i could see these working nicely in a club
much love and keep it up

Dr.Pepper=mad sort of lets go mental tune
Hoppipolla rmx=chilled
enjoy them and leave a comment..
thnx
"Dr. Pepper"
Pluses:
+my favorite non-alchi beverage (haha)
+intro synth is nice and tasty
+i like how the breakdown synth goes from buzz to formant filter "yaeh" sound, nice touch
+had me bouncing in my seat like i had one to many dr. peppers by 1:30
+variation gets nice and filthy near the end, good work
Advice:
-intro bass drum is a little dry (unique, if thats what you're going for)
-staggered breakdown at 1:36 is a little dull and disappointing, i was hoping for something crazier like the intro seems to imply
"Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros Hangman RMX"
Pluses:
+Omg Sigur Ros! just an amazingly beautiful band to remix, overall
+perfect for those dreamy interludes between insanity bangers
+nice beat for the almost trancey piano sample
+takes you to that next level when you're zonked at the club
Advice:
-Doesn't go very far, useful to be mixed in and out while you pick the next head slamming track
-strings are a little weak sauce, i think such a beautiful song deserves authentic sampled strings
-could use a couple more layers, almost like the original with a different beat
My first Dubstep tune.
I'm 18 and from New York by the way.
Pluses:
+bass comes in early, nice to thump from the get for a change
+super sweet synth at the drop and very nice automation of the wubz
+cudi style high pitched fidget, nicely done
+very nice flow, you have the right idea for sure
+when it gets to the 'you already know' the vocals even out nicely
+i wish my first dubstep track sounded anywhere close to as good as this, bigup
Advice:
-vocal sample at the beginning gets rinsed quick, maybe delay and use sparingly
-lyrics at the verse sound a little like a rapper freestyling... poorly.. hard to understand then something like 'shit on your face'? eh?
-high hats sound like preset sample... could be a little crisper, but beware the hiss
-above mentioned cudi style 'fidget' synth could be EQed a little better to be less squeaky
overall, very massive for your first effort, looking forward to your future works, much love
