I usually make mine either in massive or FM8... AI FTW! Soundcloud

I like the one at three seconds in. The main one is good too. Any tips aside from the VSTs you use?

I don't know but ever since I started using macros instead of lfo to modulate. My basses can become crazy because you have more freedom with a macro than an lfo unless you modulate the lfo rate of course which most people don't tend to do. I've only recently started using stuff like Ohmicide and WOW2 with it's Parabolic drive setting.. I use a little bit of Sausage fattener and sometimes a wave shaper just to bring it out a bit more and I tend to EQ the lows out of my growls just so I can have a separate sub there Hoped that has helped

I've always used macros for growls and actually only recently started using LFOs hehe. Ohmicide is great. Randomly automating knobs on Vocodex without rhyme or reason yields good results most of the time.
When I finally get around to learning Massive I'm sure I'll use AI a lot. Along with Deep Throat and Scrapyard of course.

My favourite oscillators to use are:
Carbon
AI
Magyr
Grn 1
Scrap-yard
deep-throat
that's most of them

Hey!
I've got something to give you! So recently I've been making a lot of growls and I made one now that I want to give you. Its nothing special, just a basic fm8 growl. I doesn't sound like SeamlessR or anything like that though. It's made in Fm8, and is the further processed by a phaser and EQ modulation. I only have the Demo version of fm8, so I'm not able to give you the .nfm8 file. I took some screenshots of the preset though, so you'll be able to remake it. Its not complicated at all, so you can probably remake it ina 2-3 minutes.
The growl consists off two 'parts'.
'Part 1' - vowel = nothing, sine sound.
'Part 2' - vowel = A
So when you modulate it sounds something like "RAAAUUWWR"
I've made a file where you can get the albeton project, instrument rack preset, samples and a DrumLoop.
You'll need albetons build in phaser and EQ Eight. And Fm8 off course...
Hi guys!
Here is my attempt to create Growl bass with Razor synth:
Final Sound: 7:55

What I recently started experimenting with is making a growl in Massive, because I noticed that what really makes the growl sound is modulating the wavetables in Massive and then I run it through the vocoder in Razor and it gets me some pretty good sounds
My favorite basses used to come from Razor, but I just can't get that sound you get when you modulate wavetables in Massive

Hi guys ! I wish it will bring back this cool thread to life
I went on the deadly journey of trying to make the kill the noise sound, here is closet attempt !
I took the growl of "Jokes on you" remix by Killy himself
(0.55min)
Don't throw me the first rock, it is a massive modern talking https://imageshack.com/i/ey57881fp with EQing, ohmicide, some overdrive on the high frequencies, wow filter E to A, phaser and additional frequency spliting.
Wish it could help some of you, and if anyone have an idea to be closer, I will enjoy it
Have fun

I could share some details for this growl, pretty much it's just massive with added distorsion, saturation and compression.
I'm shit at tutorials so uh... I'll just post the fx chain here:
It's pretty much just messing around, the flanger and phaser is emphasizing the vowels, while the saturation and overdrive on the high end gives it some harshness (I added a limiter 'cause I couldn't get rid of slight clipping).
The massive patch is just a bunch of wavetables (can't tell you which ones cause everyone should be able to make his own signature growl) modulated by a performer (intensity, wt-position) and routed to a double notch and a bandreject filter, which are also modulated by the same performer on the cutoff, bandwidth and resonance. Then I added a sine shaper, parabolic shaper and some tube distorsion along with dimension expander.
Also, make sure you play with the ring mod/phase. It helps alot!
As long as you get the right positions of the cutoff/bandwidth of the filters, you should be able to make a growl out of any wavetable.
P.S: Don't forget the pitch bend, it'll make the vowels more prominent.

I accidentally made this really Zomboy-esque growl.
It sounds kinda puny by itself, it's the post-processing that it makes it kewl.
First a phaser, but I did such a small amount that I'm not sure it actually does anything.
Then some WOW filter makes it awesome. Band Reject preset with resonance on 80% and overdrive on 25%. Automate the vowel cutoff and make it move in between "A:" and "I". After I posted the clip I added some Trash 2 which I think adds to it beneficially. Amp Drainer on the mids at 8.2% and Crunchey Grunge on the highs 100%. Then something I learned from Zomboy himself on his growls, some Ferric DTS for saturation. I used the "Drum Smash" preset because why not. Then I applied a high pass on it for sub reinforcement should I use this in a track one day and then some very very slight reverb.
EDIT: Opps something I forget was that restart via gate is on and both osc 1 and 2 are around 180.

Hey all. I am not really into a whole lot of growl production but I stumbled across what I think Skrillex is doing in the Brostep growl. How do you think this compares? There is a lot of room to change this sound so I was thinking about showcasing this in my next track. This one, I made kind of trying to re-create the brostep sound.

Honest opinion, you're not even close to a single thing Skrillex has ever made.
But it's a pretty cool growl for sure.

Sorry, just to clarify, I wasn't trying to touch his growl. did this with Massive so that is already technically not correct for his growls. I was trying to get the empty metal drum sound that he has been using lately.

I like it but what sounds like vocoder artifacts are too loud IMO. Seems too wet. I'd love to know what you did though.

Yeah I can't quite sort out the wetness. I think it is too wet / thin too but the Brostep growl is kind of like that too where it seems like you hear more effect than growl.
There actually isn't a vocoder, the clicky part is coming from the good 'ol fashion AI wavetable. I need to brush up on FM8 growls because I bet that would help smooth it out a bit. The patch is just a small mod from the Barely Alive growl that they posted. I did this mainly using Trash 2 followed by the OTT multiband compressor to sustain the effects. The OTT may need some tweaking...I haven't really used it before so it is just the default preset.

Hey all you Reese and growl bassers out there
I found this MARVELOUS plugin that makes reese bass. And you don't have to do any fancy root work or fucking around with to get the right sound going. Its not like massive where you tweak stuff around to start with the tone, this one from startup, sounds like a reese, then all it is is wave modulators, distortion, and internal processing and sampling ! It released a few months ago and its really unknown. But for being so unknown, its super cheap compared to regular plugins that are like 400 bucks -.-
The best is, with all the internal processing, this thing makes some gnarly growls.
