I wish I had nothing to do, I have been manic all this week due to it being end/start of the month hence my lack of posts recently. FInance sucks for this reason.
On the upside finally got my new tune nearly finished, But still got the mixdown to do and the many many tweeks.
anyone finished/started their christmas shopping??

Ordered one thing for the missus so far, but it hasn't turned up yet either. Was planning to do some this week, but with the weather as it is I'm fucked if I'm leaving the house to trapse round London in the crowds. Might have to be an online shopping session over the next couple of days and just order everything in one go.

Sorry if already mentioned (didn't read at 14 pages of this thread!), but does anyone else get annoyed when they spend most of their day thinking about production, get home to make some tunes but come up with very little. Get's me well vexed! Feels like I've cheated myself!

Nah, never happens to me mate. All my tunes are made in 20 mins and are FYAH!!
Just kidding, I get the exact same thing

Have you tried writing down ideas in a notebook whilst you are at work? It helps me to remember stuff.

yeh I do that - I just email myself.
Having said that, most of the stuff I write down is reminders of things to learn and practice rather than tune ideas. I got back into producing after a few years off and realised I knew absolutely jack balls about the synth side of things - which is a bit of a hinderance when you decide to start producing electronic music.

I always have little melodies I've made up playing in my head all day, then completely forget them after blasting out other tunes in the car on the commute home. Thinking of investing in one of those little sequencer apps for my phone so I can pop off for a toilet break and write them down...

This is a good idea. Come to think about it, I just realised that work let me install whatever the fuck I want on the their laptop and I spend all day with my headphones in anyway. So I should just install Reason and get down any ideas as soon as they come into my head.

I'm tellin' ya, Reaper, couple hundred plugins, a few gigs of samples - all on a 16 GB stick. It's a great time to be alive.

did that routine for years. inspiration is inspiration tho. sitting and wishing you were making tunes isnt the same as sitting at a daw and being focused and inspired. i made plenty of tunes after working 40 hour work weeks. now im barely working and my output of music isnt significantly higher because im not inspired to write tunes 100% of the time. the point is - strike while the iron is hot.

Woke up past 8am for the first time in months, very weird. Had a random idea last night to adapt the Bass Resampling template I'd set up in FL (with instance of Fruity Filter to split the frequencies) for use with some drum breaks.
Ended up spending 5hrs loading up 4 bar drum loops, then creating weird effects on the individual frequency channels (like gradually increasing flange on the mids w/ a l-to-r Fast Dist panning on the hi's) and bouncing out. Some of them work, some of them sound shit in the cold light of day.
Also tried some sort of Sidechain keying effect last night, whereby I'd have an instance of 3xOsc running underneath a snare pattern, with the Sidekick VST on the mixer channel setup to play a short burst of White noise (only using a single Osc btw) every time the snare hit. Fiddled for about 45mins trying to get it to sound like how I wanted, then gave up when I realised I was over complicating matters.

Download yourself a copy of Audacity and/or Hammerhead on the work computer if you can. I've got Audacity at work, chopping up funk records at lunch and when on conference calls keeps me sane.
