skream
Skream has come out with tune after tune after tune. He is a pioneer of the genre and a pioneer of new, fresh music. Most producers cant even get near his level of consistent creativity.
Big up Skream.
Big up Skream.
skream
I agree with the first part, he's definately like a zinc (altho i rekon more like the hype) of dubstep. To the second part , for me , hes easily the best producer in the scene - the fact u can hear n-type droppin his latest dirt-fest (filth, meta-lick etc) then listen 2 youngsta and hear another skream numba like darkside of life proves his flexibility.I would compare Skream to someone like Zinc, there from the start of the scene and always consistently working hard. I wouldn't say Skream is the best DJ or producer in the scene, but as an all rounder there's nobody better.
Personally i think were spoilt for choice with skream, sum1 alredy mentioned about skreamizm 5, puttin a sick old skool vibe like one 4 the heads on the flipside of filth jus about sums it up 4 me. its all a personal opinion tho, but u cant deny he was and still is an innovator in the scene
yes quest shud have just quoted this instead of posting in the 1st place - antisocial doing stupidly big thingsQUEST wrote:
stop dwelling on the past and the future, and just roll with the here and now, because that is all that truly matters
skream has done a lot for me and antisocial, and is a major part of the foundation of this music that we call "dubstep"
ollie, when u see this(which no doubt u will) take no notice, because after all the hype, and girls, and people saying "yes dubstep is cool" go's
its just gonna be us the producers,dj's and the REAL heads picking up the peices.

Also Adam Jay was about 19 before he had that many out. I'd say Techno is a far more prolific and more difficult genre to do it in as well. And those guys didn't have DAW's or P&D deals. And there are countless others.

[quote="ChrisH"]I've read this thread from the start and hadn't replied but.....
I think the genius & overrated thought process is kind of funny, just as I think the large amount of ego stroking that goes on here is funny via the 'don' comments. Obviously we all feel passionate about music, and we all have preferences for music styles, production techniques, etc but it's a little much. I myself have given accolades & shown respect to the folks I like, but damn it gets wild in here.
Remember that the producers are all people; Skream, Benga, Hatcha, etc are all people just like anyone else. They may have great musical gifts, and vision but it has to get really old dealing with all this. I kind of view these threads in the same way that I view the paparazzi & People magazine, it's all just a bunch of people from the outside looking in wanting more info & providing their interpretations of others. Judge the work, not the person.

I'd always thought he was a bit over-rated until I saw him DJing at Wilsonic festival in Bratislava. I had the great opportunity to interview him after he finished his set. I didn't get overly excited at the beginning of his performance, but soon I found myself totally blown away and so was everyone else. pure energy. if any other guy played that set I'd maybe just watch it from the bar thinking about the technical side of his DJing, but I just didn't care about the rewinds and the selection which consisted of too much Skream! tunes most of which I never liked. he's not the best dj or producer but somehow he proved he deserves all the hype he gets.
so a few minutes after that madness finished I interviewed him. I interviewed many guys that weekend, and together with DJ Kentaro, Flying Lotus and Bonobo he was one of the biggest stars of the festival. despite the fact, he was totally down-to-earth next door guy, we had a nice chat and I realised why he is so big. it's the story of a young boy/man living his dream and the personality which sells him to crowds all over the world and gets him the constant attention. he's like James Brown of dubstep, J.B. was not the best singer but his presence on the stage and charisma was electrifying (or so I read). and he (Skream!) is also extremely productive - you might not like everything he puts out but he's worth checking regularly because he always brings out the superfresh stuff from time to time.
I hate the Midnight Request Line hype (I still love the tune itself, it IS ingenious). I don't like his album too much (maybe half the tunes) and I only get really excited about some of his tunes while most of them I would never buy. And I hardly ever listen to his shows or download his live sets (although I would gladly see him DJing again). But despite all that - and no matter if it was him or El-B and Horsepower productions who created dubstep - I think he's not over-rated. Musically he's not genius either (although he is constantly evolving and I think he's yet to do his best tunes) but he is genius in the way he makes his dream come true and doesn't ever stop moving forward. He gets all my respect for that although I've been too lazy to listen to all his new music since last summer and I rather regularly check out the Bristol guys

3 things I miss most from the UK... swede, cider and the music scene!
I hate to say this, but neither. Sure his tracks are sick, but I think he gets more attention than others for no particular reason. There are plenty of djs/producers that match his skills out there but don't receive the same attention. Anyhoo, Skream was the first dubstep artist I listened to and I admire how he operates and his accomplishments. Whether you love him or hate him he's accomplished a lot, he became the face to dubstep.
