Is there any way to use the multiband compressor compX in reaper to do frequency splitting?

you could use it like an eq: sent the track to be split to four channels each witch an xcomp and then turn down the gain of all but one of the bands. But i'd rather use the eq or the realFIR for that task

Why not 2/3/4 band splitter-joiner? Takes a bit more routing but I think it's worth it...

(I don't know how humanly readable .RPP files are as I haven't taken the time to open one in a text editor yet.)
Actually, it's pretty self-apparent what everything is/does in the .RPP file (like, surprisingly so.)

On the applied side, I just used this trick to save about 2 minutes of config time; in this case, I had a MIDI drum track that I was swapping out drum machine VST's in, but it seems that there's not 100% agreement on the mapping & channel protocols between drum machine plugs. So when I dropped in the ERSdrums VSTi to demo it all of the channels needed to be set up with channel 10 as active and not on default 'all channels' mode: however, it's a lot easier to find & replace "chanmode=0" with "chanmode=10" in notepad with a couple of keystrokes then it is to go into each voice in the plug and point it to channel 10. At least for me it was. :6:

re: bandsplitting: ReaFIR is definitely the way to go. God, I'm beginning to have serious feelings for that plug... like, I was never really able (or wanted to) learn how to properly use a parametric EQ until I started using ReaFIR.

There's a template .RPP file for this already set up for you, too - here.

Leading by example... Good stuff.

I'll check it out when I get time :)

I'm all for different work flows and processes/procedures...

but I still fail to see why ReaFir would be prefered over the JS band splitters...

acid pro had this cool Sony resonant filter which was easy to create filter sweeps with. is there something similar in reaper? i've tried the TAL filter and it has cool effects but it seems impossible to make a simple high to low sweep with it cause it can't be automated :corntard: help me out

Try one of the Ohmforce filters, they'll all do the job very very nicely ;)

anyone know why the first kick on my audio track is really weak compared to the rest of them in the loop?

Perhaps either your start marker isn't really set to full zero, or because you inadvertently drew a longer attack curve envelope on that first hit...?

neither of those seem to be the problem

I use roughrider on all my drum tracks. For some reason any audio run through this kind of fades in when first played.... check any plugs that are on the kick's track.

Personally, to get around this, I'll take whatever bit of audio I'm using and just extend the beginning and "apply track fx to item as new take", then shorten up to the part I want and there's no fade-in...

Here's sort of a vague one:

Has anyone else but me suddenly had lots of crashes in the last two versions? Like, BSoD or full auto reboot (I'm on XP).

I'm trying to figure out whether or not it's a problem with Reaper or due to the fact that I fairly recently installed ASIO.

if its pure audio it'll probably have that auto fade in

No problems here. But I haven't upgraded to 3.75 yet...

So earlier I posted asking how to use multiband compressors to frequency split in reaper. I realized you dont need to uses reafir to frequency cut and can use compx to solo freq band channels which effectively splits the audio.

im having a problem with the free synth zr3 it has 3 oscillators sort of but each one is a different midi channel. so if i have notes down in piano roll they only go to like midi ch 1 and 3 while if im playing it thru the virtual midi keyboard on channel 2 it only plays channel 2 in the synth and the instrument sounds different.

Here is how I do it

Put the 3-band splitter (in the JS plugin section) on the audio you wish to split. create 3 additional tracks and route the main track (pre-fader) to low(1/2), mid (3/4), hi (5/6).

If you want to re-join the split signals, just folderize them
