Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin - Instrumental Tourist

Very enjoyable in parts, there are about 4 splendid tracks here. But all in all, it lacks consistency.

Thinking about getting it, but I'm a bit skeptical as I didn't enjoy any recent BEB releases. Raime was always on point though...

I've always found that Raime are a lot better on paper than in reality. A lot of their material sounds like moody music from a video game. Music that would play in a deserted facility in Resident Evil etc. Comes off as a bit cheesy & characterless.

Interested in hearing the album. Hope they've pulled it off.

I think the Regis EP & the reissue of Flaming Tunes are the best things BEB have put out thus far.

It is a soundtrack album. if you don't like that, you won't love it. Personally, it's sounding like one of the best movies I've heard in a long while heh.

I've nothing against soundtracks. I have a problem with generic, forgettable soundtracks.

edit: that sounds like I'm really going for the throat. I'm not. just found their output to be pretty dull/mediocre. I'll definitely give the album a go.

I never looked at it as soundtrack music. I knew there was something I didn't got about their tunes, guess this was it. Also, I keep reading about how their music is so jungle-infuenced and I never hear it.

The above track sounds like it was influenced by Photek. Infact i think it has taken some samples from Ni Ten Ichi Ryu.

I do think people are overstating their jungle influences. They came out of a jungle background and did a couple of jungle era mixes (good ones at that) and because there are still some broken rhythms in some of their tunes, people like to draw the line back to jungle. I have to agree that little if anything remains on the album.

Of course no offence taken. It's definitely not THE best album out there, but one of the better ones in this sort of dark ambient style I've heard in a while. There's actually some instrumentation on the latter tracks (again comparisons with Earth I've read seem far fetched though).

I certainly enjoyed it but it is not a terrifyingly inspirational or refreshed album: it just clicked with me on a stoned and drunk winter Saturday night :). Plus I like some of the industrial hints. I'd like to compare the album with Lull's Like A Slow River. If you're in the right (mind)setting, it clicks. otherwise it could come off as overly lengthy and drawn out (wouldn't use generic myself). But hey, thank god we don't all agree on everything right :) .

I also have to agree that from BEB, Regis is by far my favourite artist (the remix of this foundry is arguably the best single from Raime even lol). But he's been hit or miss this year.

Barker & Baumecker - Transsektoral

Ostgut ton records album. Really Varied. Some technoey stuff, some more housey stuff. Couple shuffley tunes. Few more melodic bits All with very nice production and cool album art.

Kendrick Lamar - Good kid m.a.a.d city

By far one of the best hip hop albums this year

Chelsea Wolfe- Unknown Rooms

Very nice acoustic bits from her. Prefered apokalypsis but that's just cause I like the darker stuff. This is as good if not better song writing wise, just a bit nicer sounding.

All worth checking

I want to bring to your attention two albums by good friends of mine :

First is Aidan Baker & Leah Buckareff project Nadja - Dagdrom

The other is my dear friend Andy Swan's band Iroha and their full length Angels And Shepherds

the latter is available via DENOVALI webshop digital (only 7€), colour vinyl/regular vinyl and CD.

If you like 'em, please support. They're all good people whom I've had the pleasure dealing with personally.
