yeah i switched it on when he was on about 75, which seems to have been when he slowed down a bit. For a while I though he might get 200! He has such limited shot selection too, all about the power and timing.

it was like hes playing in someone's backyard. I reckon if they hit the ball onto the roof it's six and out they have to go get it. 101 byc etiquette.

And we're off!
I'm a little nervy about this mini series tbh. I hope Compton can really cement himself in the squad with some big scores, it would be great to have a solid and confident opening partnership going in to the ashes.

Oh wow, I didn't think it was for another week! Damn, this means I won't be able to go to the match at Headingley
I feel we need to win this series to get the confidence back up after the draw down in NZ, though tbh with the weather the way it is I can see both games being draws quite easily.

indeed.
I'm really split on Compton, when he's on form he's a great batsman but he looks so nervy at the start of every innings. Not exactly a great quality for an opener is it???

I never really liked him much but Southee has bowled really well in this innings. With the amount of swing on offer I don't think it's going to be an easy ride for the NZ batsman though, could be an interesting session...

I think NZ have definitely hit upon a way to play against england, especially on slow and wet pitches like here and Dunedin, Stifle them with defensive fields and bore them out (this isn't a criticism btw, takes a lot of discipline to bowl as consistently as NZ have).
Hopefully Headingley has a bit more life to it, though I can't remember the last time England did well there!

tbh it sounded like a hell of a wicket and good bowling rather than a terrible nz collapse
