I use a combination of electrical tape and cable ties, in fact you can replace masking tape and cable ties for just electrical tape

when doing a mixdown, save different versions and render different versions to compare to each other and take the best from each for a final version
also unless you have a deadline take your time and go back after giving your ears some time from not hearing the same tune over and over wish fresh mind and ears

and do experimental tracks like not using any samples just make all the sounds your self even the drums

Open up youtube on 5 different tabs in your broswer. In the search bar, type in different random letters and hit enter.
Click the first result for each of the browser tabs and record the result.
Chop that shit up and use it as a drum kit!
