I always have the problem that when im playing with a synth and im high im spending all the time listening to the sound. Then i keep spacing on it. And at one moment im like Damn i just spend 30 minutes listening to the same sound. So i dunno if it makes me better or something, i just know that making a tune takes me hell of alot longer xD

I think playing guitar and all that on drugs can help make it a bit better. But when you need to get into the details of sequencing, and hitting the right frequencies, it doesn't come out right if you're off your nut.

Thoughts?

how could he actually know this? sounds like he's taking his own perspective and projecting it onto every musician..

Charlie Parker was on an amphetamine regimen - just a coincidence that a speedy saxophonist was on speed? :)

See I think drugs have done some good things for us. If you don't think drugs have done good things for us then do me a favor. Go home tonight and take all of your records, tapes and all your CD's and burn them. Because, you know all those musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years? Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs, man. --Bill Hicks (comedian)

Well, for me trying to produce when i was high bored the shit out of me, i just didn't have the patience.
Playing synth with the band while high is alot of fun though, and we have written alot of our songs high.
Trying to work in flstudio though, i quickly get frustrated and bored.

really? i find things just flow if i'm high and producing. i start w/ one sound that gets me really excited.. then i notice it's just begging for this and that.. and now it's going in such and such a direction.. and before you know i've got a whole tapestry of automation and midi notes. i got a sack for the first time in a while last weekend and pounded out a couple tunes i'm REALLy happy w/, they're my favorite tunes at the moment

I'd say i like to produce when im high but it needs alot of mixing the next day for it to sound how it felt the day before,
i (unfortunately) have to agree with that bad man, drugs (weed atleast) does make alot of bad shit sound nice.

I listen to everything waaaaay too loud when fucked. Whenever I get in after a night out I'll put things up full blast thinking it's normal levels only to realize in the morning I've probably shaken my neighbours out of bed.

nah not for me, making nice loops nd riffs or just messing around with a vst yeah, but when it comes to putting a track together or mixing nd mastering, thats where i lose interest. playing cello though, i could sit playing it for hours. probably because i feel more of a connection with the sound, staring at that big grey Fl interface doesn't exactly inspire creativity.

A spliff while im making a beat gets me absolutely nowhere, i'll spend hours tweaking and not have much to show for it. If im doing other things, getting stoned, get some inspiration and start making a beat, thats when the magic happens

Live Performance Enhancing Drugs

Post by nowaysj » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:43 am

To all the performers out there, what are your performance enhancing drugs that you use to enhance your performances? Jokes!

Any odd ball combinations that have gotten you into/out of trouble/deeper into the mix?

Performance Killers?

What are your little helpers on the path to the ecstatic?
